I agree with this tip, though some people may not. I used to have the most wonderful little dog. If ever I had a question about older meat being safe to eat, I would offer her a piece. If she ate it, I knew it was safe. If she did not, I knew it was not. She would turn her nose up at meat I could not detect any funky odor to. Apparently she could, and she never once failed me. And how many dogs do you know who will turn down a piece of good meat?

Salt works well as an abrasive, possible better than a brush. Rinse well, as you suggest. Returns the surface to bright red.

This is great! I had some ribs that are not even expired by the sell by date and still pink, but they smelled slightly and felt a little sticky. Before watching this, I rinsed them off with cool water and rubbed them really well, dried them, and they smelled good! In the oven now..but I was still hesitant on eating them.

During WW2 when my Nan, who at the time, a young girl prior to getting married was a maid for a well off Doctor would regularly need to remove worms whilst carving from the joint of meats before serving. Meat was of course rationed and even then only large amounts such as joints were for the well off so it was out of the question to waste any. Bon appétit. :D

What about a steak that's been sitting on the shelf for so long there's a mutant monster growing out of it growling at me when I try to cook the steak?
@FoodslingerTV

Totally depends on the Monster and what sauce you plan on using. Some are quite tasty. That's what rubber mallets are for.

What if I ate steak that's been cooked, sealed in a packaging and then left in the fridge 2 weeks after the "date"?
@FoodslingerTV
@FoodslingerTV 5 жыл бұрын
As always, it depends. Cooked by you and then sealed (cryovac) immediately? Or cooked before you bought it in a cryopak and then chucked into the fridge for two weeks? The former might be okay but I'd be suspicious of the latter. Smell and touch. If anything feels seriously wrong, chuck it. If you already ate it, wait a couple of days and let us know how it turned out.

@@FoodslingerTV The steak didn't taste or smell weird after I cooked it. The film was not broken when I took it out of the box to microwave it. It's been 3 hours since I ate it and so far, I don't feel sick. If it tasted bad on first bite, I would have spit it out. Thanks for the advice. the company I bought it from is called Freshly. Good prices for weekly delivery

Red blood turns brown. It’s simple oxidation because of lack of oxygen. Beef doesn’t go bad as quick as chicken and pork.

I buy 'em, leave them in the package for a week or the butcher wrap. MIght be risky, but the beef is better a little funky.

Every time you throw meat away, remember that a cow sacrificed his life. The least you can do is eat it. Don't throw it away.

What about if you eat it and its spoiled gone off, you could be sacrificing your own life by eating it?
