For anyone just starting, I'd reckon it'd be better to be a generalist first till they have a feel of what they're good at, what they like doing, which niches turn out the best for them etc etc. Experiment and then niche down

How about web design and seo for local cafes? Is this a good starting niche if the goal is to be doing this along side my full time job?

Would you recommend nicheing down at the start? I hear it's good being a generalist starting out and then nicheing down where you find the most success.

Yes, being a generalist at first is not necessarily a bad thing. But the sooner you can find your niche the better 👍🏻

Hey Payton, thank you for this. I've been labeled as a generalist for a while and it was been hard to land consistent clients. I've recently started to craft ways that I could solve potential clients' problems, so that I could provide what results I could achieve for them. For example, helping clients who don't capture enough leads, their customers don't trust them, etc.

Hadn’t considered this. Niching down by a specific problem/solution. Love it! Thanks Trae

I actually do this but in a different wat. After being a generalist for some time, I was able to do different websites for different niches. I know focus on local businesses and have landing pages for specific niches (with client portfolios) in: - painters - gyms - beauty salons - driving schools

Hi, Payton. I love your videos and I would appreciate your reply on the dilemma that I have right now. I am Developer with a Big interest in design. So, I am trying to make the most of it. I am good when it comes to implementation, however, I lack when it comes to Design. Design for me is essential in the Requirements Gathering phase of the Software Development cycle. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve in Web Design? I feel like I can outsource what I know - and that is again the implementation side.

You could start by learning Figma, that will help your design side improve on joining the dots

Dear brother, I would like to suggest you watch one of the popular courses on Udemey, for example, web design in Figma to Webflow, it will be easy to follow for your as you already know the development side, it will cost you not more than $13 to $15 may be but that course has enough value because you won't find them on KZbin as that kind of courses taught by industry experts and the most interesting part is, they not only teaching with the tools but explain a theory and research behind the design.
