I would get a layer of wire or hardware cloth over those doors. You have nice locks, but the mesh-screen thing isn't going to hold a coyote or other predator back at all, they'll just tear through it. A layer of wire will keep out predators but maintain the breathability of the screen.

@JoanieBC

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps Her Ladyship sees the cattle as her peers and playmates and chickens and such as her charges. She's a fowl nanny dog! Remember where she started when it came to birds? This is proof she's Abbysolutely capable of doing her job. I know she had you on your toes the day you were rounding up the heifers, trying to film, but Abby really has come a long way in a relatively short time. I do wholeheartedly believe she sees cattle as playmates. At least, the younger ones. She may need a kick in the ass from a cow at some point to realize they're the herd she's meant to protect and not the players in a pasture game of tag. Really impressed with how much you've improved the farm and your methods since last year! P.S. the Scottish Highland coos (c'mon! You gotta say it exactly that way or they don't understand what you're talking about) remind me of the bison here on the farm. The hair coming off in huge clumps. It's kinda my favorite thing to see. (Our big male loves when you give scritches to the shed spots.)

Loved the intro. I have a couple questions about the coop. - How is the cloth door secure? Pretty much any critter could rip through them. -how do you access the entire interior of the coop? With only the 2 doors, it looks like a huge part of the coop is inaccessible. Otherwise, I like it. The boat trailer is a great idea.

It will be a good idea to scrape the new compost and let it finish composting. Fresh poultry compost can be a bit too salty for vegetables before it finishes its composting process. The old compost is less salty because the snow and rain help dissolve high salt levels. The soil beneath the coop should be rich with leached nutrients and you should add the old compost from last year, so the cycle continues.

Morgan- On the broken axle- Why not just lift the frame & All up the tractor forks and place the coop on blocks. Unbolt the axle and replace it with one from Harbor Frt, Tools or Tractor supply. Try to match the axel bolt pattern with the rim pattern from the broken axle. Or take the axle and have it welded up and reinforced. I am betting Alfred can do the wwelding.

From 10 years experience raising chickens I have a few little suggestions that may make a big difference. One is a wider roosts. Those seem kinda narrow. That will lead them to sleeping in nest boxes ( pooping in nest boxes and egg eating) and sleeping in other spots like the wire bottom. Your bottom wire is going to hold chicken manure. It's a shame you couldn't roll the coop off the trailer and it be bottom less. I have also had preditors RIP open the wire on the bottom. But make the most of it, since the wire is gonna collect poop... Make it easier to clean up maybe use some dry hay or straw in the bottom. Then you could take a garden claw and rake out the straw/poop. Lastly is the doors. They need some hardware cloth as extra protection.

Colab with Carolina Coops, MORGAN! You need good solid coops!! 1 per pasture ... with auto doors and auto water... tgat way you can have breed specific coops for project birds to be separate. Also you can have them make you a duck coop large enough for an aquascape pond inside! He can make them to match the barns.. Also when are you gonna have someone come and repair the old barn and have it painted ... free spirit Equestrian installed some good stalls recently idk if that company does cow products but just the doors and windows would be great upgrades!
