I've only ever been on one airboat. In Mobile Bay on a gator tour. It was full dark when we left. It costs more than daytime excursions, but you're pretty much guaranteed to see alligators at night. And we saw many bright little dinosaur eyes indeed. Mama gators with their broods. If y'all ever get the chance, do that. I did it because my British wife and her daughter and her boyfriend were visiting. But I was at least as fascinated as they were. And I am from here. :)

Love your videos, especially the thankfulness expressed to God for the gifts given to us. Nate mentioned a prop balancer. Being new to the RC hobby I have not seen or know how you balance a prop. I thought all props came balanced. And wouldn’t a two bladed prop be less “powerful “ than a three or four bladed prop? I would appreciate a video explaining the difference between type of props. I.e. pitch, and how rpm effect power and speed. Is there even a difference? I have so many questions.
@chadpollman79703 жыл бұрын
Generally, you would use a prop balancer tool to check the prop. Correcting the balance is a bit of an art, deciding whether to remove weight from the heavier blade, add weight to the lighter blade, or some combination of both - usually to the back side of the prop (facing the tail) to avoid disturbing the front side airfoil. Removing material can weaken the prop; adding material can increase stress on the motor/prop shaft/prop hub and potentially disturb airflow. No doubt there are plenty of tutorials on KZbin from people with far more experience than I have. (I consider myself fortunate in that I haven’t needed to balance many props!) It’s possible premium brands balance their props at the factory, but I wouldn’t bet on it. I think it’s just a testament to the precision and consistency of modern manufacturing. Prop sizing is about trade offs and matching performance needs/objectives. The airplane will function best in a certain range of speeds (the flight envelope). The motor will function best in certain loads and RPM ranges. Ideally, you’d like to select a prop that puts the motor and airplane in their respective happy zones. Prop diameter and pitch team up to determine how much air the prop “bites” with each revolution. It’s complicated, but boils down to the idea that increasing diameter increases torque and increasing pitch increases speed. However, there’s no free lunch here. Those two factors share whatever power is delivered by the motor, so if you increase pitch or diameter and don’t have extra motor power available to compensate for the increase in load, the RPM will drop to maintain equilibrium and effectively you’re just trading performance - less speed for more torque, or less torque for more speed - and, if you’re not careful, stressing your motor (not good!). I’m not well versed on blade count. Seems to me it’s a way to increase the effective pitch of the prop without increasing the pitch profile of each blade (at a certain point, probably beneficial for minimizing additional drag and blade flexing). Might also be good for increasing total thrust when ground clearance prevents the use of a larger prop. (All this is assuming the motor/etc. can handle the increased load.) However, you do sacrifice some efficiency with each blade added; the reduced arc distance between blades means the trailing blade hits more of the turbulent prop wash coming off the blade it follows, diminishing its performance. I’m definitely _not_ an expert on the subject, but hopefully that whets your appetite and starts you off on your journey to learn more than you ever thought you wanted to know. 🙂

@@chadpollman7970 Cool, Thanks for all the info. Im not gonna be tested on this, am I? You definatly have to balance cheap props. Theyll vibrate your motor too bits or shatter into plastic shrapnel. usually start with a quarter inch piece of electrical tape to the backside and that usually does it

A two bladed prop will make it even louder since the rpm would get even higher. That's what makes the noise. It's a high kv motor with a small prop, they're loud. Compare it to an edf with a three bladed fan vs one with a 8 or 12 bladed one.
