I agree. When a man can comfortably stand in his home build, that is already one step above what 90% of everybody else was able to do. But with all things, there are some negatives. 1. When travelling, you got to plan out your routes. Some low bridges and underpasses could prove to be a height problem. 2. You would have to go to a commercial grade service center for vehicle maintenance. The height and weight of this truck would rule out most traditional mechanic shops. But for a single guy, this would be a comfortable arrangement.

@JoeyIndolos3 жыл бұрын
Impressive. I’m not really particular with the length and width (most vans and trucks will do), but the height is critical for me. Being able to stand goes a long way to not feeling so cooped up. And if you’re going to have only one entrance/exit, that’s exactly where it should be, connecting to the cab. I’ve seen quite a few truck conversions, but my beef with most of them is that they use the existing door on the side or rear. Going via the cab is not only stealthier, but it allows you to easily get away in an emergency.
@alainarchambault23313 жыл бұрын
I'm leaning that way for the shower build. Most trailers/etc. have really cramped setups for those and the only place you can really cheat on width is if you shut the back to a certain extent much like this guy did.

Ryder or U-haul used to call those trucks with the over-cab space and the little door something like "mother-in-law" cab. They were great for cross country moves. They rented them as a fifteen foot truck, as the size of the back was fifteen. I moved 32 times in twenty years and always got this truck for cross country moves. Put the futon mattress above the cab, and slept at truck stops. Put pallets down for a barrier to keep boxes from sliding forward and then you always have room for suitcase, cat beds, litter boxes and climbing up to the bed. Such a fantastic build. They drive pretty well as long as you don't let a boy pack the truck wrong and it bounces like you're on a carnival ride and you think that you are going to puke until you pull over and repack the whole thing yourself from the floor to ceiling in the Red Robin parking lot in the middle of a hot 🔥 summer day. Not that I would know, though.

Bad ass, stealth home on wheels!!! That thing is awesome!! There's lots of places he could park at for a week or more and no one would even look twice and wonder if there's anyone inside. I would find a way to ad at least 4 surveillance mini cameras with wide angle lenses and even night vision, one at the front, one at rear, and one on each side of the truck. All connected to a digital recording unit, AND to the flatscreen tv, so if there's any weirds noises outside and around the truck, there's no need to step outside, as everything can be seen on the tv screen, and should anything bad happen, there's footage to be used as evidence. Great mobile home, indeed!!

That’s an ace truck the layout is just about perfect for me. The only things I’d do differently would be a fly screen on the side vent covering the window (if it doesn’t have one already) and have the side access door locked from the inside and remove the hasp on the outside, but leave the bar, latch and padlock so it looks locked from the outside but isn’t. That would give me an emergency exit should I need it. I’d also make the side vent lockable from the inside, but look like it’s still locked outside. Maybe the addition of an exterior camera to see who or what is outside without having to open a window or door.

I have a 9" monitor in the bedroom of my Class A coach, I added last year, so I can see who is at my door or the back of my coach to check on my motorcycle without getting out of bed. Actually there are 10 cameras around my coach that I can use to see all around my coach. Even put one on my remote control spot light that's on the roof so I can check low clearances and see if my tv/ satellite dish is down and stowed before I drive off. I like this build! Awesome!!! One of the best out there. The only downside to stealth vans/trucks is your living quarters is built into the vehicle so if the van/truck breaks down you are screwed. Plus you are adding weight to the suspension and might even wear down the engine with all the extras your building into the van/truck. At least with a trailer or camper you can switch to another tow vehicle or mount your camper onto another truck if it breaks down..of course the trade off is you'll lose the "stealth" ablity if you go that route....there's always tradeoffs right.

Use the extra storage space for an enclosed litter pan and pet needs but put the food and water on a higher shelf that's easy to get to. Cat's don't like to eat where they can smell the litter but this way it creates distance and keeps the litter smell confined to one place for their eating/sleeping convenience. Wouldn't use a climbing wall ladder, but that's just me. I'd just install some wooden planks to use as a wall ladder. Would swap the hanging wardrobe for a shelved one but still keep it in the wall. Or remove the passenger seat and put a hamper under the dash.

I realize this is a few years old now... but still cool. I subscribed after this one. One HUGE ADVANTAGE I see is if you need to take the Van in for repairs you can completely lock your "House". You can not do that with a Van Build. The people working on your rig will have access to your entire "Home". The only thing I would find rough about this is I have rented uhaul 24' to move with the E350 Chassis and it is more powerful than one would think... but it's also not a comfortable ride. Just a bit sluggish climbing mountain passes out west.. like 45-50mph sluggish.On the uhaul I hated that I could not recline the seats . And the old vinyl seats and SMELL of all the plastics was rough. If only the driver seat could be replaced and recline some. I have had Ford Vans and I do not like the seats where the headrests do not adjust. Ask me how I really feel! This is a super livable space. Is the Grey tank on the passenger side? I think that is what I saw. Most RVs are on the Driver side so one might have to drive the "wrong way" into a dump station. I do not know why my mind works this way. I see 98% goodness, but my mind hyper focuses on the 2/100 things that might be problematic.

I did something similar a few years ago with a box truck. The only problem I had was people trying to break in in the middle of the night because they thought I might have tools inside. Happened probably six times in six months. Once they even tried stealing the whole truck. Scary thing at 3 am.

Interesting! Curious what country/City?

That is always a concern I would have if I went this route, so maybe magnetic signs you can remove that say "oscar's junk removal" would lessen someone wanting to break in.

I was thinking about that, what if you’re sleeping in back and someone breaks in the front and tries to drive away?? Car theft in Chicago is off the charts but I don’t know if they typically steal this sort of thing. Need some sort of magnetic sign like asbestos removal or like someone said junk truck. I guess asbestos removal would still imply tools.

They break in and then you open the door and zap them with a stun gun or whack them with a bat. 😀 They will think twice next time.

Great tour! Really unique creative design, can't find this type of content anywhere else. Please keep the on of a kind builds coming. Thanks for all that you do!

Absolutely love it? Was worried there was no second way out of the back, but then the little door on the side and that window were revealed. If one put the bathroom next to the sofa and the office area behind, one could put in a Murphy bed over the desk and have a two bedroom apartment.

Probably my favorite stealth build so far, awesome!

Amazing. The vans, though cool, seem like they would always be a struggle to use full time due to size constraints, but this or step vans seem like a good compromise and provide (close to) normal studio apartment living.

This is great. I always thought if I were to do a box truck, I'd want to get in the back from the cab just like this. No need to go outside during rain or snow. I like the back was changed from roll up to the drop-down deck. Great use of space.

Jason's friend Matt could easily have a consulting company to help others who want builds like this. Fulltimers want security and stealth is security! I can't believe none of the big RV companies have jumped into providing stealth rigs for full-timers yet. Given the recent economic tragedies ravaging the country and the number of people wanting to live frugally when inflation is going crazy, it seems like a huge market opportunity. I mean, the movie Nomadland tells this story and it got best picture, the highest award a movie can get!

This is so cool!! I think it might be good to figure out how to put the vent locks on the inside. And maybe the access door as well. It immediately stuck me as a fire trap if he somehow couldn't get out through the cab.

I think this is my favorite box truck conversion so far. So much more like an apartment yet very stealth. I like the sofa instead of bench seating too, as well as the large sink. I like the grate that covers the window, and the "gearage." So much to like about this.
@ashleighelizabeth59168 ай бұрын
One of the things I learned really quick when fulltime RVing is that a lot of purpose built vehicles come with really small really shallow sinks and it makes washing dishes a total and complete PITA. A decent sized kitchen sink with plenty of clearance for the faucet head is absolutely essential if you cook and have to clean up on a regular basis.

I would add a door to the back of the shower for easy patio access when patio is down then just move the toilet in front of the small access door and put a hinged box over it perhaps.

I think we all pretty much went "Wow" when we realized it was an urban camo build. I hate the idea of city living, but your take on it is undeniably impressive. I think this is a brilliant solution for a new adult's 1st very own "home". As a parent, a 3 year build project w/ your kid. Starting when they turn 15 & start having dreams of their own car. Well, "serious" dreams. They'll learn every system inside-out. Introduce them to formal business contracts. Have 'em sign an agreement. Excellent teaching opportunity.

My only concern is safety. I would add security window film and perhaps a 2way car alarm and have shrouds for the locks that are hard to pick (or for a door, actually add a double cylinder deadbolts .

Very cool! A good alternative as Class B Van's are hard to come by. Just need to decide you are not going off non-maintained roads. Something to think about as Box Trucks are not in high demand! Hmmmm?
@surreygeorge113 жыл бұрын
Class b - really expensive here. Box trucks - nearly as much. Those small school buses are rare, but a good buy, because they are well maintained.
