Brian, I live right by this, in PB. This is the area where for over a year before I had a stroke, I went around to both give homeless camps food as well as making deals with those with RVs to give them food to cook for others around them. I gave them food and propane to cook the meals. A couple times those who promised to serve meals ended up disappearing in the middle of the night. But I made no restrictions on the use. I figured that if someone would do that them I think Spirit told me that Spirit planned that for some lesson. Maybe to not be giving so much food to one time. Live and learn. This is all around Mission Bay park and upper Point Loma. I year ago Spirit slowed me down a bit with a stroke I had while serving homeless citizens. I have nearly healed, but no car. So I have this big stack of boxes of food to help others with. I offer others that can get to me, a hot meal. I even have to-go cups to put it in. I spent a decade on the streets in major depression myself a decade ago. Now I have the means to help those in the same situation. Knowing you are from here, If you are around here sometime I would love to supply you with a meal you can go around to pass out.

In the 2000s I lived in SD. I would get up at 5am and metal detect the wet sand at low tide for rings and then go to work at 8am. Every day, the swimmers leave silver and gold rings. I had pounds of silver rings and a quarter pound of gold rings. Retired metal detectorists who didn't work got far more than me.

When I moved to San Diego in the late 70's, I was surprised to see the many older cars. Being from the Midwest, I found out that because the roads weren't salted in winter, cars/trucks lasted much longer. Great video.

Van life can definitely be a ' time warp '. One day you're at the desert , next day at the beach. From the beach to street parking. Once and while I'll park at a beach all night. I'll place a bucket and worthless fishing pole at the back of the van. Fishermen sometimes get a pass.

Have you thought about getting a compost toilet. I recently got a Natureshead. It doesn’t smell and it is soo good being free from dirty public toilets. Not having to go outside at night when nature calls and not having to take being near a toilet into account when choosing a spot to spend the night.

Hi Brian. Thanks for the little tour. I used to go to San Diego in February to attend a spiritual seminar. A couple of us would go to a little restaurant near the boardwalk. Thank you for the quick tour down memory lane! I grew up in San Diego, but finally left about 6 years ago. It was fun seeing some of the places I used to hang out. Also kinda interesting to see the number of camper vans and busses as you're driving around OB. Never did let my canine friends run loose at Dog Beach. Always worried about Parvo. Probably the result of growing up the son of a veterinarian.

I am always impressed with your ability to hustle up these jobs Brian , I’ve been stealth camping in Detroit for some time now , building up my van and getting the stuff that van lifers need . I am a bit nervous about heading out on the road and leaving my steady pay , I am in pretty good shape but I am pushing 60 and like it or not that can be a job securing nightmare . I know that time is passing fast and if I don’t do it now I may miss my chance of true freedom . Your vid’s help remind me that it is all worth it and you just got to have the guts to get out and do it !

As a San Diego resident. It w!so nice to see sunset cliffs. It's still beautiful. Used to go to dog beach are dog loved playing there. One of my favorite locations are shelter Island. My wife and I enjoy going on weekends we woul park down by the boat launch. We we a lot of time stay in car and just sit and watch the boats being launched it was always entertaining. And such a relaxing place during summer we would park and set up our lawn chairs. And we had stopped at filippis in little Italy and get some of ther great submarine sandwiches and it would be early evening it was just nice to enjoy the view of San Diego and staying down until after dark it was just such a peaceful place to enjoy a summer evening.
