The more I watch this movie the more I like it. EDI mentions that the chances of survival in a 2 on 1 dogfight are less than 9%, yet is clearly able to outfly those human pilots. EDI lied to Ben - thereby making him complicit in killing the Russian pilots. When EDI remarks that the combat scenario (I couldn't catch it's name) must be real, otherwise "Why would they implant it in my brain?" that's a pretty awesome comment on all military strategy, the training exercise is meant to force hostilities. By being in the area and armed, ostensibly for peaceful purposes (like Ben who was simply trying to guide EDI back to base), you force further hostilities. Guarding EDI so that he wouldn't kill other people forces Ben to kill other people to guard EDI. It's such a good movie that you could read into. Or I'm just reading too much into it.

@joshuapowell26758 жыл бұрын
+escapeartist yeah but they don't get launched preemptively. They're launched upon missile launch. IR missiles typically have passive scanning meaning they themselves pick up the IR signature, not the plane launching them. As far as radar-guided missiles, they'd have to be the variant relying on active radar being broadcast from the plane for a preemptive release of chaff to have any sort of effect. That also means the trailing enemy plane would have to maintain a radar lock to "guide" the missile
@joshuapowell26758 жыл бұрын

It's never addressed that an American drone and an American pilot kill a bunch of Russian pilots without any consequences. Hell, there's a media shitstorm every time a Russian aircraft merely crosses a national border. Same goes for the bunch of farmers killed and North Koreans. The ending just ends as "The drone is dead, hundreds are dead, we've created a diplomatic incident with Russian, and obliterated the Korean DMZ.... but as long as we have a funeral for Jamie Foxx, the American, all is well."

@ANimouz True, a Gsh-30-1 cannon is said to be able to down an F-15 of F-16 is as few as four or five hits, but in the movie the Talon is a hypersonic capable fighter, meaning it's made of some very tough stuff. My qualms are 1) why didn't the Russian cannon rounds explode on impact (they using training ammo or something? and 2) the bullet hit in a straight line... which would never happen. They sure did some homework though. The Terminator is the proposed 2-seat variant for sale by Sukhoi.

Actually, all of these maneuvers that are pulled in this movie are all very probable, even as unrealistic as it seems. An unmanned aircraft can pull maneuvers incredibly more intense without the need for a pilot. The flip that the fa/37 does at 2:32 is also very possible as forward swept wings allow for hyper maneuverability. The whole flip routine can be done by many Russian aircraft, with normal swept back wings. Forward swept wings can allow for even more intense maneuvers. Physics baby.
