You probably already know this but just in case you don’t, a steam deck is not a smooth experience like a console. You’re going to have to tinker around with settings and spend some time on google and Reddit to get things to work the way you want it to. But other than that, you should be good to go. I’m getting my deck this quarter and I’m excited

nope... this is good for console gamers who want to try PC gaming. this isnt good for dedicated PC players, who want to drop PC building and game exclusively on the deck. the deck will drive you mad when you realize you cant play your games at full potential at 60fps or higher. shit cant even run GTA4 at high settings at a lock 60.

I could see Nvidia and intel making there own for a different company. But the reality is AMD, Nvidia, Intel are the only 3 companies in the world that can make these. The CPU in the deck is really special. And Valve and AMD almost certainly have an agreement in place where only Valve can buy these chips. My point is don't expect to see tons of variants of these coming out any time soon. And before you ask Aya Neo and ither competitors aren't the same. Those are just handheld laptops. There specs are impressive, but they can't come close to matching the steam deck until AMD, Nvidia, or intel make there own equivalent specialized low power APU to match for a broader public use.

I've always been an avid Nintendo fan and love the Switch. However, some of the limitations on available games can get a little frustrating at times (especially seeing some favourite franchises being sold on all other platforms bar the Switch). I'm curious to see how the steam deck develops and evolves through the generations, as it may become the favoured handheld system in time, purely due to the extensive games made available on it. Seeing the emulators run on this has definitely piqued a lot of interest.

I got a deck myself. I bought it knowing and understanding the battery life just wasn't going to be there. I mean, come on... What device has actually ever had capable battery life. Not even the switch in my experience. Not my gaming laptop. Not even my PSP from back in the day. With that being said... We are now in the days when getting power to your mobile devices isnt fairly challenging anymore. We have power banks, USB connections on planes, we have USB connections in vehicles whether factory or aftermarket with a device from Walmart. The battery is really a non-issue. Definitely better than Gameboy days bringing around your sandwich bag of batteries XD I'm loving the deck. I haven't played much on it yet. Wreckfest, Elden Ring and now I'm going through the Secret of Monkey Island games. It's been a blast. The power shutoff in my house a week or more ago and I haven't even bothered turning my desktop back on. Honestly can't recommend the device enough. Of course, if you're able to understand the battery limitations.

I know Linux still has a low percentage of Desktop Pc's, but what surprises me is people being amazed that Linux really works as a Desktop experience(IGN did the same thing), LInux Distros nowadays are really user-friendly, for sure you can browse on Internet, manage your files, edit your videos, images, documents and gaming, maybe this happens because of the lack of coverage from the big media, there's people who still think that Linux is a big command line(without user interface) I use Linux since 2015, and I never had a better OS experience since then, not just you have apps for everything, but the most important thing you are in control of your system, if you really like computers learn Linux is a must, give it a try is free, and nice video as always Jake and Steam Deck is amazing.
@DarkWorldQ8

Linux is far easier to deal with than Windows 10, at least the simpler distros are easier. They are usually lighter, and they usually come with many software that most people use such as a Microsoft alternative, VLC media player, PDF read, and a simple to use app store.

Anyway that laptop ran Starcraft 2... on medium (a few things high i think) settings... if you have a windows 7 pc you can run that game, that laptop was not a gaming rig... Honestly. Battery much of an issue as long as you understand it. At full blast you get around 1h40min (which isn't great). If you want ~3-3.5h of battery life (like the first Nintendo Switch) turn down the TDP Value to 8W-10W and adjust your settings and frame rate until you are satisfied with how it plays (Cyberpunk works great at 720p locked at 30fps with balanced settings and FSR Ultra Quality, It looks phenomenal) If you want 4-6h. turn it down to 3-5W. This works best for older games and indie games. And if you play emulated 2D games or 2D indie titles you can get 7.5-8.5 hours, since it won't even max out the 3W. So really, set your target TDP first and then adjust the game.

I was thinking of doing these things as well when I finally get Steam Deck. "Locked FPS + Low game settings + Undervolt + FSR" should he a magic combo for saving battery AND... reducing heat. I might be canceling my reservation for the $650 version. If the battery IS that bad and you really have to tone down the graphics and framerate just to get more juice, then why spend all that money? I know it's the first gen, but it's 2022, so batteries should already be improved by now. You spend all that money just to play games at a fraction of what the full experience should be. That $650 would probably be better spent on a high-end graphics card... That's just my opinion!

I just got my deck a week ago. It's an impressive device, but it can't remotely be compared to a proper desktop gaming pc. Especially if you've had a 144hz+ monitor/gsync for a long time. I'm enjoying it, but if I'm not out of the house I'm turning on my desktop. 200hz ultrawide goodness with a 3090 can't be beat.
@tomw8655
@tomw8655 2 жыл бұрын
Sure, but that's because it's simple, not a proper desktop. It's a handheld, and as a handheld, nothing can beat it. I have docked it a lot too and in some cases, it's also fine as a low-end desktop pc. But that's all it is. For me, however, I don't miss my pc as long as I can get the game to run at a locked 60fps on the deck. And with the summer heat, my deck is also perfect for allowing me to play my favorite games outside of my desktop setup, as my gaming room is in the attic, with no AC, so it gets boiling hot in there really quickly.

I've always wanted one of those handheld PCs or a portable console like a Wii or PS2. I don't think the handheld PCs are worth $1000 or more for my use. There's only so much they can do with a battery in this form factor. It's closest competitor is really the Switch and compared to that, it's easily going to on par running the same games at the same detail/performance even though it has more powerful hardware.
@NoCapNick698
@NoCapNick698 2 жыл бұрын
Just remember most switch games are very watered down for example some can barely hold 25+FPS and run very low graphics and some don’t even run 720p so if you’re capping your games at 30FPS and 720p on the steam deck you will get similar battery life to a switch I’m just confused why people complain about 2 hours on a game like god of war

The battery isn’t as bad as these reviewers often make out. I mean, what do you expect when you run a AAA PS4 gen game at high settings on a portable PC which also has to power the screen? The battery on mine has been lasting as long as my OG Switch. Not my Lite to be fair, but it’s At least as good as an OG full fat switch.

I got the Nintendo switch but I don’t find myself on there anymore for a LONG time. I used to do game boy games and what not ALOT. Unfortunately I simply just don’t travel as much and more compelling games are else where. How ever. When I saw the steam deck. I really did want it but I think back to the switch and think how often I even use that and I think the same thing gonna happen. Where I simply don’t use it. As cool as steam deck is. I simply can’t see myself using it over my pc and console. Seeing that I don’t really travel. Though I swear, that emulation and everything. I’m tempted
