4:20 important note for others doing this, if you have an SD card in but it still says "Error reading SD card," make sure it's named "primary." I tried a few SD cards of my own and, from what I can tell, the custom installation won't recognize the path if it isn't named primary... for whatever reason. Even if you try to select it through custom directory, it won't work. I literally tried it with a formatted SD card and it wouldn't work, but I renamed it to primary and it suddenly did.

Great guide! My EmuDeck experience improved 1000x once I ditched Steam Rom Manager and just used a single front end like EmulationStation.

Yeah I can almost never get Steam ROM Manager to add my games (even if they are in the correct directory). Desktop Mode works every time.

Someone at emudeck needs to hire a UX designer. Their workflow and menus feels purposely designed to confuse and obfuscate.

HELP ANYONE? Issue I ran into if anyone can please help: The installer runs perfectly fine (as far as I can tell) but it seems that emudeck isn’t actually installing. The application is running off the konsole and will close if I close konsole. I can’t find emudeck to relaunch it… I can only reinstall with the installer using konsole. I don’t see anything new in gaming mode either to help me play my installed ROMs. Am I missing something? I’m a total noob to this as I haven’t gamed on pc in 7 years. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO MAN! Hey mate, I'm having an issue with melonds I'm hoping you can help me with. I've set everything up and have been playing pokemon black 2, problem is that every now and then it crashes my steam deck and I lose whatever progress I had made even if I had saved the game.. I had it working alright for a while, turned it on to play, spent about 2 hours progressing, then hit a random crash and lost everything i had done

After adding my roms .. the games are in the section "non steam" games instead of "library" also how do i add new roms to my existing library? i went to desktop mode and clicked on emudesk app after i installed it and set it up.. and it just goes straight to the install screen.. the "easy" and "custom" screen. I've had a weird issue with SRM where it won't add the games to collections. It adds them to the none steam games tab, but won't create the Playstation, Gamecube etc collections. Can't figure it out.

Hi how can I remove the games from either appearing in the Steam Library or just removing them all together in the Steam ROM Manager? I have tried to add the functioning ones into the excluded section and delete the remaining ones with the "Remove from Steam" button but that deleted all of them from my Steam Library.

My friend want me to do this for him but I know nothing about the SteamDeck but I've done all sort of system modifications before. All I need to know is how the SteamDeck stores it's files? There's obviously an internal storage, but what about expanding the storage of the SteamDeck? What are the options? Is there a microSD slot and can you also use an external drive (like a micro USB flashdrive)? My friend want me to copy all his retro games to the SteamDeck so I'll probably need all storage this thing can support. Please let me know the details, limitations and compatibilities. Thank you !

@@Murlockingqc The steam deck has a micro sd slot and you can use external drives if you want. Personally I use the internal storage but micro sd cards are just as good.

Did an update break this? When I click "Custom Install" I get "oops there was an error please restart emudeck" ? Do you know how to fix this? MicroSD formatted in SteamOS and named 'primary. Tested microSD card with HWtest and it detected no error. What is going on? I installed Decky only (and the EmuDecky and Emuchievenments plugins? are they breaking this?). I'm really lost, I googled the issue and everyone said to delete .config Emudeck folder and the Emudeck folder on the Home page and close steam, but it still doesn't work. Do you know what's the issue ?

You just add games into those “emulator folders” and then parse them with Steam Rom Manager. Check the chapter “add more games” in this video.

If you go inside the system folder (i.e. roms/ps2) there’s a txt file there you can read which file format it reads.

Yep.. same reason for me. But I still use Emulation Station, because it's much cleaner imo. One solution would be: If you don't like the default controller layout for one game with emulation station, just use the steam menu and create anonther layout for your specific game, you can just swap layouts when the game is running.

Ok, I got it working... Had to use my friend's phone to make an hotspot to download and install Emudeck on the Steam Deck. If I use my home Wifi it didn't work for some reasons. (found solution online) Now Im at the part in the video where you manually copy your game but I don't see the EmuDeck shortcut on the desktop like you? I don't have my USB drive ready with games on it yet and Im afraid the Steam Deck will close and will have to do everything again. Can you please let me know if I should see the EmuDeck shortcut at that point ?

If you don’t have the shortcut on your desktop it’s in your download folder. home/deck/downloads

@@Techcravers I forgot to mention, I executed the download file from the Desktop but I installed EmuDeck to the SD card. I made a custom shortcut to the ROM Manager and EmuDeck but they don't have the 'original' icon like in your video.

I honestly get confused whenever the external memory card thing gets plugged in, do I need one of these plug ins to complete the process?

@@BandoBreh No plugins needed. All you do is choose Micro SD as installation path and EmuDeck will install everything there. Then put your games in the roms folder on the memory card (instead of the internal installation path thats shown in this video :)

What file extension do your Wii U games have? You need to enable the correct parser in Steam Rom Manager. To be safe, you can enable all parsers, and it should find your games.
