It worked! Thank you a lot! 'Normal' way to reset password with recovery media wasn't an option for me because of slow USB stick.

You just saved me. I had no idea I never set a password I was trying to install CryoUtilities and it was asking for a password so I was entering what I THOUGHT was the password . After getting error after error . I decided to look for a video . The whole time all I had to do was type “Passwd” and it let me set a new one😂 thank you so much bro

thank you Scott, this did work for me, in my case I had to changed the partition name in the command, so in your case it was partition 'var' in my case was 'var-B' ;-)

How it is possible my Steam Deck came with a preset sudo password? I haven't set it and had problem with installing programs outside of Discovery app.

I was just going to change my password when i realized i last set my password using an external keyboard (I was sure of my password). When i was was having the issue i was using the native Steam deck keyboard to type in my password which was failing. Once i figured that out i reset my password using my native steam deck keyboard.

System tells me in in the final step: ....overlays/etc/upper/shadow can´t be set up: file or folder not found. Any idea? (Otherwise nice video!)

Didn't realize the device changed OS partitions like that. Could that be the reason why my VPN stopped working with the "package for network extensions not found" error?
