You can also set the default install path in Galaxy settings to the SD Card. There is an Install, updating section. Just cut and paste your full path into that and it will default to it for all games.

Great video, thanks. Only issue I've had is when changing the target to the Galaxy Client. exe after installing GOG, it would not launch and I needed to manually add the " symbol to the start and end of both the target and launch in file paths. Hopefully saves some of you some time/ frustration!

Trying this in 2024 and with the newest GE Proton (8-23 I think?) you can now install to the deck directly without the SD card. It goes MUCH faster (I downloaded and installed the game in like 15 minutes) also just click on the path and add in the double quotes, no tutorial needed anymore.

The proton internal storage is limited to like 27 gb. Some games on Gog would install in there. Most are going to be bigger than that so yes, you have to install externally.

I didn't know there was an actual workaround to getting GOG Galaxy running on SteamOS/Linux. That's really cool to know. Hopefully, it means you're able to utilise the Steam controller configuration menu since there are a lot of old games that don't support controllers but can be alleviated with this solution. I think even to this day you can add the Galaxy client as a shortcut and rename it to any game you intend on playing in order to reveal their controller presets, whether they're official or user-made. It's a little cumbersome but I'm aware that was the case. So I hope SteamOS and its GUI is able to do the same since it is more or less the same client but with a completely different interface to Big Picture Mode.

@@deluxener6744 Think I had this message. Had a failure when installing The Witcher 3 but in my microSD card I just created a folder called GOG and then went and installed Witcher again and pointed to that folder and it worked.

Nice tip. My money still says if you're going to do "non-standard stuff" with a Steam Deck? You need a real mouse and keyboard. You can get a BT pair for like $10 for the occassions when you have to get funky with the Deck.

If your following after May 2024, at 3:52 when he changes the GOG installer to the GalaxyClient, the browse button has now been split in 2. Make sure that Target is the path to the actual exe and the Start In points to the directory. Wow, this is simply awesome. I was reading up online about GOG Cyberpunk on the Steam Deck and the suggestion I'd seen up to that point were along the lines of copying over the install from a Windows machine as is to the Deck. Never ended up doing it as it was a bit too messy for me. This is the video I was looking for! Thanks a lot! I wonder if there's a better way to launch Cyberpunk 2077 and have access to cloud saves though. Maybe a script that opens the game from GOG Galaxy that you can then add to the Steam library? Saves a bunch of extra clicks. There must be a way.

Hmmm ... well, you could launch a script from non-steam that launches GOG Galaxy first ... sleeps for x minutes ... then launches Cyberpunk ... but the only thing this would save is essentially two clicks (one to click on CP2077 and one click to hit PLAY) at least Galaxy would be sitting in the background waiting for Cyberpunk to finish playing then sync. Frankly? Two clicks seems like the right thing to do to ensure you get proper syncing.

@@RogerMoreau That's the Windows' launch script command. That doesn't work in Linux (I.E. Steam Deck.) You need to put the /command=runGame /gameId=1423049311 in the Target box, after the file location that's already there.

Tried following your guide (thanks for creating one btw!), but I can't get past about 1:30. After putting in the launch options and selecting the compatibility proton version, the installer doesn't actually start after pressing Play. Steam says launching and then immediately stops.

It depends on whether the game supports Gog syncing or not. I don't know how many games do, I'm not typically a Gog guy but their Gog client should support at least basic cloud save syncing for most games

GOG's homepage. If you are on a Windows PC and go to GOG, you'll get a download link. If you use the Deck? You don't get a download link at all. The link included is right from their download page. You can download it yourself from GOG and copy it to the Deck if you want. People demand a "Deck Only" solution these days, and currently GOG's website won't provide you with a link on Linux.

I don't think this would work like that. This process is designed to avoid the use of anything "extra" and get GOG working. It isn't intended to be an all in one. Sounds like you already have a solution that works ... This probably wasn't targeted at you :)

The error is still the same: The game is downloaded, but at the end of the process "Installation failed / Error E2" is displayed. I made sure that the game is installed on the memory card. I just got a steam OLED (don't know if that changes anything for this video), but when I install GOG every time I start up the launcher I get an "unrealized file system" warning. is this an issue/ can I fix this? Everything seems to run fine, granted I haven't installed cyberpunk yet. I plan on centralizing my game installation to the internal hard drive.

That seems to be a brand new thing added after this video. I haven't seen a way to suspend that yet. Perhaps there is a registry entry we can exploit. I'll give it a looksee before I redo this video for 2024.

That's sort of the way Steam works I would expect it to work the same way here.

This is obsolete now using nonsteam launchers. Matter is, I get a fps drop every10 secs on cyberpunk when opened in gog, which makes playing it a pain. Heard it is related to gog itself running on steam deck.

Non-Steam Launchers is loaded with issues. I reviewed it already - and if you saw that video, you know why I don't recommend it. I have no idea about Cyberpunk on GOG ... I haven't seen that particular issue personally.

Idk why but it's not working for me. I can get gog to install and launch once after installing but getting it to run again is a no go for me. Its frustrating cause it does run I just cant get it to run again. Same with ubisoft connect.

Same here. Followed, got install, go to game more and click to "run" the GOG "game"... spinning Valve circle of death. Been 10min now and no movement.

@@cycleboy8028 if you just have the ubi installer listed in the steam library when you want to play the game start off with installing the launcher each time and install to the same folder it will prompt you its already installed and if you wana open it , run it like that. It's the only way I can get it to work.

I have a 1TB internal drive where I set up a games folder. GOG labels the drive Z:/home/deck/games. It still gives a not enough space warning. If C is the proton prefix, why is it still happening on Z and is there any way to fix it? My current work around is to install the game on my PC and copy it to my deck via WiFi, then run gog and install to the same folder. It sees the existing game files and just finalizes the install and all set for patches.

Hey, I've got performance issues with GOG Galaxy on my Deck, which has been a problem since all the way back to March when I got my Steam Deck. What happens is that the fans always run full speed, and I get a low battery life of about 2 hours regardless of which game I play. Can be a very old game from 1990, doesn't matter. Looking at MangoHud, I can see that one of the cores always spikes to 100% every second. Checking Htop while GOG and a game are running shows that a process called winedevice uses about as much CPU as it can. You can suspend winedevice from Htop, but the game will freeze when it tries to load or save something. This only happens when GOG is running, you can exit GOG during gameplay and the problem goes away. Have you noticed this at all? It makes GOG seriously unusable for me on the Deck, and it's the main reason I'm waiting for Valve's dual-boot wizard to release.

I installed mine on the SD card but it freezes briefly during gameplay.. Then let's me move again, why could that be.. SD card not fast enough maybe?

Does this method have working cloud saves? Ive used geforce now on my steam deck and my saves do go to the cloud as long as you exit with about a minute left on free hour. Cyberpunk has cross progression saves that dont really work well so it can be disabled in the cyberpunk settings

The sync is happening as long as you launch from Galaxy and exit Cyberpunk properly. The launcher does a follow up sync after. Should work 100%

i was told its a bad idea to install in C (proton installation) so I put in root of Z and now cant find my gog installation anywhere, there is no drive c in any compatdata pfx foldrr and not anywhere else. browse local files opens nothing

It is bad to install GAMES into "proton prefix"'s C drive. I recommend using a centralized storage method for installing the game. Just remove the nonsteam game entry and it will take the files with it ... then do it again without messing with the installer :D

For this method, your saves are likely in the non-steam game proton folder that was created for GOG installing. The proton folder number is randomized, so your number won't match mine. Every game uses different locations within too :D Sucks ... This might hold true though: www.gog.com/forum/theme_hospital/where_are_your_save_files_located

The proton suggestion was correct. I just had to find the version of proton from the GOG Launch and copy the saves. Then I could go down into the steam cyberpunk proton and then pasted the data. The path was /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatadata/*****protonversion***/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/CD Project Red/

So there is a problem with starting cyberpunk with opening GoG first. The game will stutter if GoG runs in the background and that sucks. One way to get rid of the stuttering is adding the redlauncher as game and start it that way so you can at least get the cross saves on the deck

Not at all, but that's where MOST people want to install them to. In my newer digital locker videos, I show a newer method of centralizing your non-steam game installs from these lockers - and you can do so on any storage device you want.

So whether you store them on the SD card with a symlink or you install them in the home directory as a symlink either way you're going to be protected if you ever have to uninstall Gog Galaxy or if it happens to get corrupted.

Game by game basis. You get precompiled shaders with Steam. On a standalone locker? You have to build them. So if a game uses shaders extensively? It will most definitely perform better on steam.

Last time I checked was about a month ago and it was working fine. You're the first person to report that there's a problem. I would definitely go back and double check your work. One mistake can cause everything not to work. If you're absolutely sure you followed everything to the letter including proton versions and everything else then let me know and I'll go back and read it this video and make sure it's still good.

@@Darkuni Rebooting and trying a 2nd time worked. Mind you, it works like ass, doesn't load half the time, need to reboot often. I technically don't really need it since I can just transfer my game folders from my PC via FTP, I just want Galaxy to unlock achievements while playing. Know of a way that Galaxy could run in the background and I could just launch my games GOG games via the Steam client after adding them as non-Steam game?

Great tutorial! I originally purchased Cyberpunk on PS5 and wanted to try the cross save function to be able to play it on steam.. so I created a GOG account as per the game’s instructions in order to create a cloud save (which it did)..plus I had someone download the game for me as a non steam game so I won’t have to pay twice for it.. But I don’t know how find my cloud save and not sure how to link it to my steam deck version (which keeps giving me an error and asks me to open redlauncher) when i try to load from the cross save button… Can you help? 😅

What platform did you buy the PC version on, Steam or GOG? I suspect you're saying that you are pirating the game on PC. This is why it's not working.

It’s probably pirated. Someone did the installation for me. But I finally figured it out. I’ve managed to install GOG to my steam and link the .exe file (by linking as an executable) and now I can see the cloud saves and load them. You just need to make sure that both the ps5 and GOG versions of the game are the same (2.0 version of cyberpunk)
