The Steam Deck OLED is our new challenger today. What does it bring to the table in terms of battery life?
There are four devices featured today.
Steam Deck LCD 800p @ 60hz
Steam Deck OLED 800p @ 60/90hz*
ROG Ally 720p @ 60hz
Legion Go 800p @ 60hz
Of course our Steam Deck OLED will be running at 90hz if the game supports it. If it doesn't support it (or the game doesn't even go above 60fps), then we'll stick with 60hz.

I would say its worth just because the lcd from the steam deck absolutely sucks, even cheap monitors are much much better, im not even talking about oled stuff but really the color acurracy, even among other ips devices its very bad. I dont regret getting my lcd when i did, but i gotta admit it kinda sucks color wise

Do it.. I did. It blows the lcd model out of the water. Plus, if you play less intense indies like I do, it has a 90hz refresh.

I got exactly what I came from. I liked how you performed these tests. They were very informative. As an extra info it would be interesting to know at what settings each game is running, FPS and game screen size, as I noticed not all games take advantage of the full resolution, depending on the device. All of these things can impact the final result. It's interesting also how Valve and AMD are changing the way game graphics are displayed, without the need of power hungry machines. Cyberpunk was a very power intensive game, and now it feels a lot more smooth even on portable devices. That's actually incredible.

If you use 30 to 40 FPS on a 10 TDP, screen brightness to 80% on AAA games. You are able to play on the OLED 3 to 4 hours. It’s a great hardware and I’m glad I snatched the Limited Edition, like you. Good test as always. Cheers!

@@fabolousjada5070 you dont need an PS Portal to receive an video streaming from the PS5, you can use your phone or an steamdeck , and if you use the deck to receive an video streaming only, then the battery will last much longer than 1 hour and 40 minutes, probably will last more than the portal. the difference is that you can play on the deck itself without needing to purchase/have another device. in other words, the deck can do everything the portal can with the same battery life or better, but it can do much more, like playing games offline, in places where you have an bad connection or simply is too far away from your ps5 to get an good connection.

This was a very informative and fun test, thank you. I do want to add my theory though as to why steam deck dominates indie/ non AAA games. It seems that it has something to do with the proton compatibility layer for Linux, as all of the titles that steam deck won by a landslide (aside from DeathSmiles) was native as opposed to Dark Souls and Cyperpunk. This suggests a big win for Steam Deck's future and Linux gaming overall, as when AAA titles slowly creep into Native Linux support, I suspect we'll see quite the massive performance/ batterylife gains. But that's just a theory, a Steam Deck theory!

I've been using my LCD for a year and it is still at 100%, it might degrade but not that much I think
@Some-guy-on-the-internet
@Some-guy-on-the-internet 3 ай бұрын
Something I think should be noted is that the age of your device will affect the battery life. It's been just over 2 years since the LCD Deck originally launched and as a general standard, battery powered devices tend to target a battery health of roughly 80% after 2 years of use. Of course, this is dependent on how you use your devices and your charging habits so it's not always applicable but it's a reliable average. While I would never recommend someone buy an LCD Deck over an OLED, perhaps in a case of someone being strapped for cash and still wanting a Deck, they could go for the 256GB LCD model. In this case, they might get up to 20% better battery life than what was shown here, assuming your LCD Deck is from the launch period (if not, change that number to 15% or 10% depending on how old your LCD Deck is). While this doesn't really change much in the grand scheme of things, it at least means that the few people who will still be buying a brand new LCD Deck today should at least get moderately longer play time than the one in this video. Either way, this was a rather comprehensive test and I like your methodology. Good video!

I have a switch OLED and Witcher 3. The battery lasts around the 4 hours mark with a 10 minute +/- discrepancy. This is while actually playing it though. I reckon it would last longer if I just leave it untouched like how the test was performed in this video. ARM is a king when it comes to battery saving. No x86 processor could top that.
