Thanks for the great show. Reminded me of a 1915 Peerless car chassis lifted out of the San Diego mountains years ago. Fully restored/recreated now. Amazing.

This nice of what you all did to save this old guy. I'm from western wa and just found two donkey wooden frames but it's neat to see one mostly together.

Back in ‘97’ I hiked 8 miles up the Lamoine’ lumber company-Slate Creek’ narrow gauge Grade/Shasta County CA-with my brother in law and a locale guy who’s Great Gramps supplied beef to the logging operation in the Teens’. We we searching for the lost Engine that slid off tracks in the late 20s. Bill the great grandson at age of 9 ‘stumbled/Discovered -- the engine with his little brother back about 1970’. His Dad was bottle hunting the old Grade-and the boys were exploring. Climbing through 8’ manzanita & buck brush. Well we tried-but We didn’t find it-but remnants of Old trestle and Dolby Meadows camp and such we’re still there. Throughout the years-There were serious attempts to find it-and Apparently 5-6 years later the Engine was found and Air lifted. It resides in a logging museum in Oregon. That was so long ago and now with the fires set by the Marxist idiots indoctrinated in our public schools and ravages of time-the old Grade and remnants are likely reclaimed to Mother Earth.

Any plans to get it running again?? Would be great to bring this part of logging history back to life!

The men weren't necessarily big, but they were tough as nails. My uncle was a faller on Vancouver Island at the time chainsaws were just being introduced. He was pretty short and slim. But you wouldn't want to tangle with him. By then, most donkeys would have been diesel or gas,but the wooden spar was still the thing.

Plenty of good people. Just takes a bunch of money to do this. This was hauled out with government money. You can go get one for yourself.

This donkey i used to sit on and eat my lunch. I believe it was in the perfect Museum rite where it was. Another great memory. Unfortunately the wrong person found it..

Great flic... I've called portable winches, Donkey winches for years, being an " Old Timey" well driller. Young fellas give me funny looks when they hear old tetmanolgy. But what do I know? In the flic... I see some minor errors... Clevis shackles should always have clevis pins run in all the way, to prevent mashing of threads under load and for safety. Also , they should have used Square sided bolt nuts to secure, not hex sided. All bolt heads and nuts were square back in the day.

Found one once in complete original condition.Still had cables running out in the timber and water hose going from boiler to the creek, almost ready to use.Unfortunately the Forest Service built a trail leading to it and vandals hauled off anything they could carry.

I would love to see a donkey being hauled into place all those years ago and erected, all by hand,no helecopters then, Anybody got any ideas when the donkey was first used and it's final use.
