The 201 had a deep steam boat sounding screecher when it was at Scott, Ar. I saw it run at least twice while it was there. The whistle would try to grab a tone, then start screeching is how I remember it then. I did have it recorded , but those old cheap tapes didn't survive the years. 201 is historical as it helped build the Panama Canal. Thanks for this share.

Nice video of 201 in her final days of steam. Every time I visit the esna railway she has more rust. Sure would like to see her steam again.

Number 1 sits at reader shop on the shop floor. Number 201 is still at ESNA at this time. - Steve Rohr

The higher pitch whistle is a MYSTERY to me. But I think the Deeper tone one is I think a Hancock 3 chime.

Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway 201 is a 2-6-0 “mogul” built by ALCO in 1906. It was used for the Panama Canal Railroad. It pulled trains through out the PCRR system until being retired. It was purchased by the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway for operation. It operated at the railroad until it’s boiler work. Today, the engine is undergoing a cosmetic restoration after the city of Anna, Texas had the engine. Were it is today.

@Strasburg1991 maybe... the #1 was taken off property by the reader railroad for a possible restoration the #1 and 201 are both owned by the reader, so they are in safe hands. #1's sister the 2 is currently being operated by the reader on a tourist line in Florida look up the Orange Blossom Cannonball.

The deeper whistle is a 6 chime that was on #1, before that (1970s) it was one #2 at Scott and Bearskin, where the whistles were switched and at ES&NA, No 1 had the Frisco or SP 6 and the 2 has a Lima 5 chime. The whistle sounds higher on 201 since it has less pressure and the sound is altered by the shield.

@razgrizaceblaze259 I spoke with a guy on the phone about what these whistles are. He makes whistles for living. The higher pitched whistle is definitely a 5 chime, but it is slightly a wonder what it is. Mostly likely though, iti s a CB&Q 5 chime. That deeper whistle is more of a mystery. It is likely a hancock, specifically one from the Frisco. I hope that helps.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of whistles are being used by #201 in this video? I know that in the videos of #201 uploaded by shay29772003, #201 is wearing a Powell 3-chime. However, neither of the two whistles that #201 is wearing in this video sound like Powell 3-chime, to me. Any guess at what kind of whistles these are would be greatly appreciated.

I went down there just a few days ago, 201 is still there, but sadly not used. They are using the old EMD SW1 switcher now.

If you rode that back in 82 I was the fireman on that engine. I loved working there when I was in High school then. Still wish the old girl was still running. An experience I'll never forget.

We went on 7/31/20. They are tearing her down to send by truck to a place (they said but don't remember) in Arkansas for cosmetic only restoration. After that she will be going to Texas (they said but don't remember) to I think they said a playground. She will never run again. RIP 201

Unfortunately, I was only 2 when the ES&NA stopped running steam. On my first vacation there, I was expecting steam to be running, but I was WRONG!
