A steam nozzle is a duct or passage of smoothly varying cross sectional area which converts heat energy of steam into kinetic energy. The shape of the nozzle is designed such that it will perform this conversion of energy with minimum loss.
What is a nozzle used for?
Nozzle - Wikipedia
Nozzles are frequently used to control the rate of flow, speed, direction, mass, shape, and/or the pressure of the stream that emerges from them. In a nozzle, the velocity of fluid increases at the expense of its pressure energy.
What is the work done in steam nozzle?
As the steam passes through the nozzle it loses its pressure as well as the heat. The work done is equal to the adiabatic heat drop which in turn is equal to the Rankine area. The flow of steam through nozzles may be regarded as adiabatic expansion.
What is the working principle of nozzle?
The basic principle here is to convert the pressure energy of a fluid into kinetic energy, which increases the fluid's velocity. The rate of flow, speed, direction, mass, shape, and pressure of the stream can all be controlled by nozzles to varying degrees.
What is the use of steam nozzle?
A steam nozzle is a passage of varying cross-sections, which converts the heat energy of steam into kinetic energy. The main use of a steam nozzle is in a steam turbine, which produces a jet of steam with a high velocity.
What is nozzle types?
Pneumatic nozzles can be divided into 5 different types:
Fine fog nozzles. Semi-fine, semi-coarse fog nozzles. Clog-resistant nozzles. Blower-Air driven, ultra-low pressure nozzles. Steam-driven nozzles.
What is a steamer nozzle?
Steam Guns, Steam Nozzles
Steam nozzles are great for removing moisture as well as oil from steel surfaces. The inlet narrows to form a throat, which is followed by an enlarging form so that atmospheric pressure is reached by adiabatic expansion, producing a flat jet pattern.
What is nozzle pressure?
Nozzle flow pressure is the discharge pressure of a nozzle at a given flow rate. It is an indication of the velocity flow of your fire stream in feet per second. You can use the hydraulic formula for velocity flow for any smooth bore, fixed, selectable, or automatic firefighting nozzle.
What is nozzle efficiency?
In the theoretical treatment of the subject, the efficiency of a nozzle is defined as the ratio of the total kinetic energy of the steam jet to the total input energy ; the latter being taken as the adiabatic heat drop of the steam plus a correction for the kinetic energy of the steam entering the nozzle.
What are the basics of nozzle?
Basics of nozzle technology | Lechler
Basics of nozzle technology
Geometric design of the nozzle outlet.
Medium properties (specifc gravity, viscosity)
Internal geometry (swirl part, swirl chamber)
Supply of the medium (axial- or tangential flow)
Why flow nozzle is used?
The flow nozzle is generally used for measuring the flow of steam as well as non-viscous, erosive and high-velocity media. It can be used in a wide variety of applications that include steam, air, water, vapour, gas, chemical substances and high temperatures.
What is the function of a nozzle flow?
Flow of gases and steam through nozzles
The nozzle is a channel with a continuously variable flow flow area. Fluid flow in a nozzle is a process in which the pressure decreases and the kinetic energy of the fluid increases.
