They’re quite different, yeah. Anything before 2017 is great, but the vintage ones can be very special. They’re even more lightweight and softer..

There’s an easy way to date them by looking at the internal label underneath the lining. The type of label itself will tell you. I have a chart, but I can’t link it here, it’s a photo file. I have a question, sir. Do straw hats shrink too? And if so, what steps can I take to preserve the size of my straw cowboy hats?

I’m hearing all sorts of conflicting opinions on this subject; Is it OK to use spray stiffener on a Stetson Open Road Royal Deluxe? I like the idea of the softer dress felt over stiffer Open Road 6X, but I sure don’t want to damage my new Royal Deluxe if I ever need to reshape it at some point.

I wouldn’t touch it with anything wet. Huge gamble. Some can take minimal steam, most of them cannot even take a few spritzes if it looks good now, you’re ahead of the game, don’t mess with it. Just wear it and enjoy it don’t steam it and don’t mess with it, just try to keep it as new as you can, I’d leave it alone. I’ve handled those particular models personally for decades, I still do. It’s easy for some internet hat nerd to say,”just stiffen it” because it’s not their hat. Don’t do it. Steam rain snow or spray are its enemy. Anything wet can cause brim curling.

I have been looking at vintage fedoras 🤠 🎩 don't know my hat size though I measured it and it says 60 cm what would be your expert advice on a size I should try?

Most vintage hats are size 57 or smaller, size 60 will be way more expensive. I suggest you double check your size, and measure again. And don’t buy anything too tight,ever. Go larger, but never smaller. Often vintage hats are marked 60 but are actually 57 when you get them home. That’s why they show measurements of the hats with rulers and stuff. I’m not a big vintage guy, to be honest, I don’t like used hats unless they look perfectly clean,super super clean.. Hats in that size realm are going to cost you big bucks, go large if in doubt, but never go small expecting to stretch it. That doesn’t work

Hi Kevin, any suggestions about flattening the brim of an open road 4x silver belly? Sides are a bit higher up then I would like and I have tried steaming and working with my hands but it doesn't seem to take the curve out. Thank you in advance.
