Eileen Thonssen dozens of people where seated in lawn chairs waiting for what might have never happened that day? Some were determined to stay all day . One man who I spoke to had been there many times that week waiting to see it. He said” i’ll give it a few more minutes, and then in out of here .” He turned around and started to walk away as the Geyser started up . We both laugh hysterically! A few minutes difference and he could’ve been to his car and driving away. Thanks for watching !!!

Great video of an incredible experience! We were present for the September 9, 2020 major eruption; just like you, happened to be exploring the basin at the right time. There was a lot of wind that day, so all along the boardwalk and at the main viewing area, we were all being soaked and it was icy cold.
@michaelpetersonbackpacking60773 жыл бұрын
So were you like me when you saw all the cars in the parking lot. So many had tarps over them to prevent damage. Signs that cautioned parking in the area, and you thought “oh what are the chances that it goes off today?”
@deborahsappington48283 жыл бұрын
@@michaelpetersonbackpacking6077 Strangely enough, we missed all of the precautions and saw no tarps but as we left were told by a ranger that we should be careful not to turn on car wipers or wipe glasses as they would be irreversibly damaged. Funny when viewers pulled out raincoats and umbrellas; they were prepared but also had likely been waiting for hours, if not days. We still marvel at how lucky we were. It was a highlight of our trip, of which there were many incredible moments. By the way, do you know why the water is so cold? I have not been able to find any information about that.

wow that's loud... it took it a little longer to build to peak this time, but dang. i think you got one of the better perspective shots of it. Such a violent eruptor... @etherealswordsman32144 жыл бұрын
@@michaelpetersonbackpacking6077 trust me, steamboat isn't potent enough to set off the volcano. the volcano, in its current state, most likely won't be set to erupt at all in the next 500 years, and it'd need even longer than that to pull a super eruption. you're safe from that threat.

Some facts about this big boi for you guys. -The Steamboat geyser is taller than Old Faithful, and is (if I recall) the second-tallest geyser on earth. -As the volcanic hotspot moves away from Old Faithful, it is moving toward Steamboat and causing more frequent eruptions. -Steamboat may become the new Old Faithful as the famous geyser goes dormant. -Steamboat was inactive until a couple years ago, and people started panicking thinking that it was a sign Yellowstone was about to blow. -Steamboat erupts with such force that it can effortlessly send *boulders* flying into the air. I want to see this one erupt so badly one day but it's still so unpredictable :( Don't quote me on my accuracy, it's 10 PM

adoptedchineseboy this one varies a lot . I had no idea they could go this long either . I think it probably shot water for around thirty minutes, followed by the constant steam . It wasn’t really a noticeable difference to look at( especially from a distance) but the sound became a roar . We stayed in the Norris Geyser area, looking at the other features there, and recording the eruption( from different locations) , for around an hour . It was still going off when we left . As special as an event as this we should’ve stayed till the end, but my kids had lost all interest and wanted to leave ?
