Bonjour Wesley, I envy this moment so quiet in a beautiful landscape and with a steam boat... Bonnes fêtes de Noël, Amicalement, Raphaël

How good is this? I thought it to be an Amazon tributary till I saw the towers. Beautiful waterway.

Perfect for rivers, but at sea not so much for this beauty.

Only thing you need now is Humphrey Bogart kicking the Boiler and Kate Hepburn at the tiller lol.

Where do you guys get your boilers and steam engines from?
@WesleyHarcourtSTEAMandMORE3 жыл бұрын
The gentleman that built this boat designed and built everything himself. I still have the patterns and drawings for the future. There are a number of suppliers of new and used boilers and engines, some that come to mind are; Reliable steam engine company Pearl steam engine company Beckmann boat company Elliott Bay Steam Launch company Smokstak forums Discover live steam classified adds Northwest steam society classifieds Steamboat association of great britain classifieds North american steamboat association Amongst others... Most countries have their own steam but associations. Word of mouth is big. Sometimes things pop up on craigslist or ebay. Where do you hail from?

@@WesleyHarcourtSTEAMandMORE. I am from Grantsville, Utah. Thank you for that info. I don’t know anyone that is into steam power so it has been hard for me to try to find someone that has any kind of info. I am looking to make a stationary set up first then I want to transition into a boat for steaming on the great salt lake. I’ve looked at the tiny power steam engines but have wanted to see more options. So you just helped me more then you know. Do you get all of the odds and ends such as oilers, whistles, blowoff valves, water pumps all on those same places?
@WesleyHarcourtSTEAMandMORE3 жыл бұрын
@@guybrown6951 yes, a lot of those places are good sources. Also keep an eye on auctions from Aumann auctions and Nixon auctions. It's always nice to have the better made antique stuff, but you can make things work with new stuff until you can accumulate the neat old stuff. Safety valves are something noone should skimp on though. Remember to get one rated for 5-10% more (but never less) than the maximum pounds per hour (PPH) steam output of your boiler. Any more than that and it can cause priming and won't seat properly, potentially causing water carry-over and a low water condition. I've always wondered about steaming the great salt lake and whether anyone has done it. You'll definitely need a condensing steam plant.

@@WesleyHarcourtSTEAMandMORE I’ve wanted to steam the great salt lake because back in like 1898-1946 there was a steam boat that ferried people across the lake into salt lake. I’d like to follow its original route. One last question and then I’ll leave you alone. Is there any sort of book that can tell you little things like what you told me above. Upkeep of the engine, boiler, best way to set up oiling systems, etc. Or is it all just experience and word to mouth too?

@@guybrown6951 the 'bible' you seek is "Steamboats and modern steam launches" it was a bi-monthly magazine back in the early '60's but it has a wealth of knowledge. Old "live steam" magazines, as well as "light steam power" www.thesteamboatingforum.net/forum is a wonderful resource as well. I think is awesome you're working towards following in that boat's 'footsteps'. You can email me anytime. bilgerat671@gmail.com
