Another drive we are familiar with. My wife is from Oak Creek Colorado and we have driven these roads many, many times. In the old days I even flew to the Yampa Valley Airport many times shortly after it was open and receiving airline flights. Thanks us for the ride.

Well Mike, as usual, beautiful scenery and great video! Sure was good to see Steamboat Springs in the video; it's been years since I've been to Steamboat. Yes, I figure that we're in for a long cold wet winter this winter season and hoping that you'll be able to do some great videos of winter driving. Catch you in the next video and as always, be safe and happy trucking trails to you!

When you passed the oversize load, it reminded me of an accident they had on Hwy 50 in the canyon near Texas Creek between Canon City and Salida. A flatbed hauling an oversize bulldozer grazed the side of a gas tanker going the other way. Of course there was an explosion that engulfed a car carrying 5 that was following the tanker. It was horrible.

Steamboat Springs. If you are ever there, don't miss Mahogany Ridge Brewery & Grill. It's always slammed, but you will not have to wait long. This place is simply the best with dipping sauces to die for. You can't go wrong with anything you order. There are two bars, so if you have to wait, just relax, have a drink and absorb the delicious aromas of what will soon be coming your way. 5 STARS! Don't miss it!

Nice vid. Memories of driving up from Montrose to GJ and then over to Denver for my monthly logistics run for the Colorado Army Guard. Always had the weather forecasts down to the minute so I wasn’t caught up in the snow storms and getting stuck.

My husband loved this video as he went to college in Speedboat Springs in 1970-1971, in fact, he caught a glimpse of it on the right side of the road and up a hill. We were lucky to stop to see his college in 2009. We actually caught it before they tore down his dorms. We were allowed to go in to look (everything was ripped apart) and he showed me how his room faced the ski jump. He was surprised you didn't mention the ski jump as that is a big deal for the town. He was on mountain rescue while going to college and also worked at the Safeway store. My husband used to climb the mountain where it looked like a plateau. I think he said something about hub (?). It was hard to hear your conversation as my husband was telling me his memories. He went to school with some very rich and famous (through the families) people. Oh and about your extra palet my husband caught the one marked Steamboat Springs. I saw it said Aurora on the top label. After we replayed video, I too, could see Steamboat Springs. Well at least you didn't have to go back to deliver it.

Thank you for sharing this video. It’s great to see that the former D&RGW railroad branch is still active. There has been a significant decline in coal loadings from the local mines. When I was a child, there was a passenger train from Craig to Denver.

If that was a couple of years ago, i may have ran a load for you. I was a true hotshot driver for 25 years plus, and a couple years ago i ran a hotshot crucial load of small motors, could have been generator motors to Steamboat Springs and met up with a crew trackside for Union Pacific. Really nice guys and neat town. Would love to go back there one day beautiful city.

Portable scales.... You just HAD to bring that up, got stopped headed North on 13 right by ColoWyo back in 2001....meathead held me up for hours, arguing about my luv nuts being loose..... Someone spray painted the axles, and when the tires were changed, of course the lug nuts didn't line back up.... When I finally got to Steamboat, the guy at the lumber yard was pissed...

The highway through Steamboat Springs is U.S. 40, NOT state route 13. You get on S.R. 13 from U.S. 40 at Craig, CO., then it goes to I-70 at Rifle, CO.
