I've always cooked them similar to this but I was looking for something slightly different and saw your recipe. I love spice, so I think I'll try the jalapenos this time and the lemons. Otherwise it was similar to my own version. P.S. a tip to ensure they don't have sand inside them is to soak them in cold water with a lot of salt in it to mimic sea water. They will naturally spit the sand out of their shells.

Larry, you sold me on this when you dumped the stick of butter into the skillet! Then you put in the fresh lemons and limes and I knew I had to make this as soon as I can get myself to the fish market! I know clams don't go far. They are 3/4 shells, but the bits inside are like nuggets of nirvana! Thanks for showing us this (low carb) great recipe my friend!

Lookin' good Larry! Like you mentioned, I used to think I didn't care for clams other than fried, but one day I was doing mussels in this fashion and threw in a half dozen cherrystones (or little necks, I forget) and was glad I did! Now when I crave mussels and clams are in the case, I always get some of each...now Sir, my broth isn't as spicy as yours (though I do use red pepper flakes) but a good piece of toasted/grilled garlic bread is a a necessity for sopping up the broth, yum! I'm also told these mollusks (and other bivalves) are nutritionally significant sources of vitamins and minerals...say zinc and iron...umm, which I'm also told helps galvanize your parts..._>ahem
@TheWolfePit
@TheWolfePit 8 жыл бұрын
Ahhh fried clams, my absolute favorite way to eat clams!! Whole belly or clam strips, yummy! Yes this broth was on the spicy side when it came to sopping, but great for the clammage! You're right they do make some decent screw top wines now and even some in cans believe it or not...which is why I had to name drop to get my sarcasm across! LOL Mouthful is 1/3 cup....very interesting fact right there! LOL Thank you Randy!

Mr. Wolfie, i recently subscribed to your show, and i am a 55 yr., old irishman from rural kentucky. I was wondering if i have question or comment, do you prefer to be addressed by a name or just direct to thewolfepit, as i do not want to be rude and i just recently started using the internet for entertainment and learning new recipes, etc...appx., a year ago. Anyway, i was also curious about where your show is based out of, you do not seem to have a southern accent like me, but many of your recipes that i have seen seem to have southern origins as their base. Have a nice day

Clams with unopened shells after cooking weren't dead before cooking (that's clams with OPEN shells that don't react to taps) Sometimes the heat causes the muscle to lock up instead of relaxing, which causes them to not open. They're still safe to eat, it's the clams that died before being cooked and so opened before cooking that you gotta worry about

Question: I'm not a shell fish cooking type of guy so, out of an abundance of ignorance on my part,............. if you cook the clams in the broth they will naturally open but wont they also release into the broth any sand inside of them? I woulda thought the clams are boiled outside of the broth, then introduced into the broth. But what do I know?

Gary, No the inside of the clam is clean and sand free. The sand is mainly on the outside of the clam which is why it's important to wash them really good. Thanks for watching!!
