I don't know about mechanical problems, it may be money money problems than anything else. They're dumping a lot of money into the Boston and Maine engine, and if there's anything wrong with 2317, I'm sure they are taking a back seat with her, and trying to get the B&M up and running so they still have two operable engines running on the mainline.

@tachikoma747 The rule is a Federal Law. It was explained to me best by the head shop man Will at Steamtown. It's basically a 5 year rebuild, 1472 days if you ran the locomotives every day. No one operates their trains for 5 years without resting them. As long as you leave 15 lbs. of steam in the locomotive you can still run a few days without using one of your 1472 "days". But, the exception is that every fifteen years you MUST have the locomotion re-inspected. Goes for everyone.
@Giants0212215 жыл бұрын
@mdurdan 2317 is getting taken out of commission due to the 15 year inspection that is a Federal Law and thus the 2317 will be in rebuild for the foreseeable future. With Baldwin 26 being the next engine to be rebuilt, 2317 is likely to be finished behind 3713, then and only then, would they consider rebuilding any other locomotives. It's the understanding of many that we will not likely see Boston and Maine 3713 much sooner than 2012.
@fuscoproductions16 жыл бұрын
Haha, well she was on haitus... She hadn't ventured out onto the mainline in several years prior to this, and is now subject to the same fate once again. (She is no longer mainline certified anymore, she was only for the short time in 2007, I believe.)
@MDurdanRailVideos15 жыл бұрын
actualy the 2317 is stil runing. the othor 2 wil be done in aprox 5 years and no the big boy is not part of steamtowns colection it is privately owned although the curves ARE WIDE ENUF to fit the big boy it would take millions of dolars to get runing and permission from the owner.I think the main concern would be weight if they wer to get the big boy runing (witch their un fortunitely not planing)

sounds like it makes sense but I just don't know why they wouldn't then be letting 2317 run more than 3254. Don't they have to be inspected every 15 years? Because if that's the case maybe they are running 3254 like mad because it might have to go into repair before 2317 does, and maybe that's the real reason.
@THandBfan17 жыл бұрын
Oh Yeah! CP Pacific sounds 10 times better than CN Mikado hands down! I love Canadian Pacific and Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo Ry. the TH&B was own by NYC and CP and the biggest steamers TH&B had was 2 2-8-4's which are scrapped in 1953 and I just wonder how they sound back then. Thank you very much for posting this video. Very thing about this video made my day. :D

I hear Steamtown's running a re-dedication excursion to East Stroudsburg to re-dedicate the Dansbury Depot. The power will be Reading FP-7's 902 and 903. In my opinion, 3254 would be better looking. Or the Lackawanna F-3 units because the Lackawanna was the railroad that used the depot.

@mdurdan I don't know where you get your information but you are 95% wrong. The only thing you right on is that the Big Boy will not run again. The Big Boy is owned by Steamtown and always has been part of the same collection since Blount purchased her. There is no track left that can support the weight and curvature that the Big Boy needs to run. Even if there is some still out there it's no where near the location of the 4012.

@Giants02122 I like how Strasburg seems to get around that rule. The story is the same as its always been: if you want to see consistently great steam, go to Strasburg. 4 operating locomotives and no annoying corporate trackage right issues.
@fuscoproductions6 жыл бұрын
Strasburg does not get around that rule. The 5-year (1472 day) rebuild does not have to last 5 years. It just must be completed every 1472 operating days, and in theory could be completed in weeks if nothing is wrong with the engine. Typically Strasburg has at least two other engines serviceable while one of them is down for a 1472.
