2:57 Is not a double Fillet weld. It is a Butt weld, or a Groove weld, probably double bevel full penetration.

Magic Smoke FPV when you weld two sheets of thick steel together you’d want to do a butt weld typically but it’s not that clean or if you don’t do it well enough you’d want to go over it which is exactly what it looks like was done on the outside of the stair where 3 welds are present. The second set of welds after the butt could be considered fillet welds but they’re more to fill in any gaps that the butt weld didn’t cover. With that being said they could be considered single bevel groove welds?

Galling from what I've understood it to be, is specifically something that happens when threading metals together. It is what causes threads of a bolt to seize in the threads of a threaded hole or into a nut. When I was working for a fabrication company we would use anti-seize lubricant on all stainless steel connections to prevent galling and seizing. Can anyone expand on this from 2:33, maybe I'm misunderstanding the terminology. I wouldn't think that galling has anything to do with the necessity of a washer, even though the concerns requiring the washer are completely valid, is there another piece of terminology missing?

I'm an engineer and CWI THIS IS NOT a double fillet!!! This is double bevel V - CJP or PJP groove weld. This guy has NO idea what he's talking about!!

There is no possible way this guy will take down the video for being wrong- here is why: Listen to his voice. He has the voice of an office-bound soft handed guy. You can tell be the timbre of his voice that he owns books, maybe wears glasses, and presents as someone who rare if ever gets challenged by those around him. He has a large but sensitive ego, and won't admit it when he is wrong. Further, his channel name, "the amber team" and the fact that he mentions his place at some academic institution unequivocally guarantees that he will refuse to, and will never acknowledge when he is wrong and offer corrective action. He will simply go on believing that he is correct, and everybody else in the world are the ones who are wrong. You can tell all this by his voice, channel name, and that he mentions a university.

5:30 If you're gonna weld on the field, why even bother with the bolts? Why not just weld the whole thing together without the bolts?

The steel beam can be supported by the bolts by itself while the welding can occur, making it far easier to build. If you had to hold the beam perfectly in place while welding it and waiting for the entire assembly to be completed, you would need to basically halt all other work while the welder finishes up each connection. With bolts, you can secure enough to have the beam stable, and then come back later and finish the moment connection before completion or moving up the to the next level, etc.

All these answers are correct and also its 3 times more expensive to weld in the field vs the shop.
