I totally agree with you! What kind of "experimental weapons division" is that, if it feels so technologically obsolete? Even more obsolete than the primary GDI faction. Yes, they may have some rugged adaptations and battlefield-tested improvements for their units, but that's not really "experimental" in the way most people would expect.
@randomka-52alligatorthatis344 жыл бұрын
For me, the Steel Talons "Experimentalness" is more on the fact they still cling on walker based vehicles rather than the tires and treads that everyone went after the Second Tiberium War. Kinda like how many nations had prototypes like the UK's TOG II a prototype tank build in case they get bogged down in trenches because they thought the next war was still gonna be like the WWI.

2 notes/corrections I'd like to add: 1. The heavy harvester mining speed reduction is only noticeable in-game, but it has been confirmed to be a bug. The same bug actually affected all of the new sub-factions in KW. 2. One of the biggest advantages of the Titan MK.2 over the standard tank that has not been mentioned in this video is the fact that it is a raised weapon platform, meaning it has the ability to fire over buildings, while it can use those same buildings as effective cover against other non-walkers.
@kodan78793 жыл бұрын
Further advanatages to the walker design: Increased effective fire range and better armor penetrating capabilities due to elevated platform. lower risk of tiberium exposure. Higher mobility on uneven or clutered terrain. Hull is basically unpenetrable from the front Disadvantages: easily aquirable weakspots on the legs. provides no cover for infantry. Lower effective max speed. It is easy to see that the Titan outpreforms main battle tanks in purely mechanized combat, as well as having a distinct advanatge in cluterred suburban or tiberium infected areas. It is also harder to ambush due to it's higher cockpit. However when we take combined arms into the picture it's easy to see how the Titan is good for one thing and one thing only. Destroying armor. A resourceful infantry division can easily dispatch a Titan by targeting it's exposed legs, as well as the design lacking the infantry support capabilities of a main battle tank. Not to mention it is impossible to hide this thing.
@TheNeoDaedalus3 жыл бұрын
@@kodan7879 Very well written. My comment was mostly based purely on gameplay purposes, however you did actually highlight a weaknes that I forgot as well. The titan can be destroyed in the game by a commando as well, just like the Avatars, Juggernauts/Behemoths and Tripods can, by simply using explosives to destroy it basically instantly. As for the armor vs. armor purposes, in the game itself the predator tank actually still either outclasses it or matches it in basically every category (armor, damage are greater on predators), while having the same cost to produce. The differences do come into play when it comes to either crushing other vehicles or shooting over buildings. There is also a difference in mobility, the titan being able to turn a full 180 degrees way faster, however, the predator can actually outperform it in certain situations by simply driving backwards, which the titan is incapable of.

Steel Talons, can actually make great use of BH or MoK infantry, for instance Confessors can outright replace the Wolverine, if you start getting upgrades then it only gets better for the Confessors since Black Disciples get Purifying Flames (which is in my opinion one of the most cost effective upgrades in the game since barring the Mantis and other AA or AV units it upgrades all the units you want to be using as BH), and they are tougher then Steel Talons riflemen with a generally better damage output, even before upgrades, but not having an Armory really hurts the Talons, since even if they didn't get upgrades from it they can't heal their infantry squads like GDI or ZOCOM can, not having access to Zone Troopers in particular can hurt, but it can be worked around that and if ST got a Zone Infantry, they'd probably want a Anti-Infantry one, mainly since factions like MoK and T59 can really outpace their walkers without much trouble, meaning you have to use Riflemen in Hammerheads in order to catch them with ease, since T59 will just poke your death-ball to death since the Steel Talons aren't the Protoss or Hierarchy where the Death Ball is pretty hard to take down for one reason or another, and MoK will just EMP it.
@squishymusic97232 жыл бұрын
IMO the steel talons should have had much better infantry, to make use of those garrisonable units. I would have played it so that while they start off well they have little upgrades to make them effective at the endgame. As a whole I would have taken greater inspiration from Tiberium Sun as well. Riflemen would have started with somekind of armour bonus but not as effective as composite armour. Grenadiers could have been replaced with discthrowers with greater range and near hitscan attacks. Its kind of insane that they have no zone trooper like unit, especially given their penchant for railguns and tech research. Hell maybe their infantry could have all been zone troopers (Though it takes away from the MoK imo). Given their attitude to combat its also insane that they do not use the Commando. Given that snipers and commandoes in lore use railguns, I would have swapped out AP ammo for a small arms railgun alternative. In game it could have made anti infantry units less versatile but more damaging against infantry. Maybe, it would make it a double edged sword. It could function like supercharged particle beams in that its just better than AP. I would have had Behemoths benefit from the railgun upgrade too 😂. Disruptors should have replaced shatterers as a slower but heavily armoured version, and MLRS replace slingshots as less powerful AA but more versatile as a rule. Maybe ORCA bombers replacing firehawks. For cherries on top, I would have had the Mammoth MkII instead of the MARV, one upgrade slot, max damage no marvesting.

I am going to say I think GDI in general was wise to invest in both conventional combats vehicles as well as walkers. It allowed for more flexibility overall. And even though the Steel Talons may have been out smarted nod and Kane . I do think in the long run they helped keep nod in check and allowed GDI to operate effectively as a whole. As even if it was a big brain move for Kane to get the Steel Talons defunded he used allocate a lot of his own resources just to do that. So even if he was able to move more freely eventually I am sure his forces were crippled to some extent. Also I think the Steal Talons left not only visible but mental scars on nod veteran warriors that ultimately tested their faith to the brotherhood. Like the new recruits would be so energized for nods cause. While all You see in the corner are the cold Dark gazes of Nod Veteran Soldiers who survived hell against the Steel Talons and they look to each other and chuckle and say these poor bastards don't what kind of hell is instore for them. That is what I think of Steel Talons and GDIs Mech forces sure a wheeled apc my be of concern. But a Wolverine will make you keep your head down as its revs its deadly chain guns. Maybe a predator tank might make you rethink your plan of attack or wait until it passes by to ambush it from behind or the convoy its escorting. But I would like to think a Titan would feel like an encounter a T-Rex stop hide and don't make any sudden moves. Facing a mammoth tank might be your final stand to the death as a nod terrorist and you know your screwed. However you cry out defiance. A Behemoth on the other hand may make you pull out the white flag as a nod soldier and cry out why has Kane fore saken me. Now I am not saying that this is how a nod soldier would behave in any of these situations or in every case. But there is just something about a stomping mech that is just way more terrifying than any clacking of tank tracks could do. But that is just me. The Steel won in the sense that could force not into hiding or make them rethink their plans entirely which could end up in delayed and more predictable attack patterns by nod forces minimizing civilian casualties while maximizing lethality against nod forces. Sure examples in this video showed the steel talons getting wrecked and outplayed by Kane in the long run. But I would like to consider before Kane came back into the picture that indeed the Steel Talons were handing nods ass on a silver plater to them. But that is just my opinion. Although they may no longer be at the height of their strength as a fighting force. They Integrated with the main GDI Forces and have bolstered GDI's strength overall and are working effectively with traditional GDI forces on the battlefields of the future.

The AHV-8 Sandstorm lore entry also mentions the Steel Talons, naming at least one unit still in operation, the 151st Special Armor Brigade. It would make them more viable, I'd imagine instead of composite armor for the troopers, it's an exosuit, which marginally increases their health but grants them a major speed boost (much like the cybernetic legs of MoK). Unique type of rockets for their rocket troops to deal more damage not unlike the tiberium rockets of the NOD. ST made their appearances in KW mostly prior of the 3rd Tib war, so they are indeed using experimental forces of the time, trying to preserve most GDI's powerful arsenal and bridge them for next generation warfare, they don't get to use sonic fancy stuff because they haven't invented it yet. They put a bunker in every vehicle they have because they're paving way to GDI'e next gen infantry-tank cohesion tactic despite being an armor-battalion Tib-Sun GDI in nature. Like a parent learning using smart phone to teach the kid. But after proven "ineffective" against Nod(result of LEGION pushing KW campaign), they got underfunded and discontinued by GDI bureaucracy. And when you put them into pvp skirmishes, their arsenal automatically become antique store when compared with all other factions(even the BH). But in most RTS game, being old school not necessarily meaning being weak, in StarCraft, Goliath and Dragoon are antiquated units, but they still packs up a punch in warfare, and not even necessarily cost-inefficient to amass. So here is your Steel Talon, living shadow of her former self, still capable to conjure nightmare to GDI's foe by bringing fearsome T3 armor battalion, and Tib-Sun like T1 armor push to give a hard reminder. My feeling for them gets influenced by mods like One Vision, so don't take my imprint for this faction as its decree, it's an opinion, not an argument.

@@Jethild I wish the Mammoth mk2s were in use by the steel talons. Let's be honest, the steel talons were only portrayed as failures, and not the biggest threat to nod as Kane declared, because there was no GDI campaign to let them show their worth. EA needed the STs to be the fall guys to justify their decision of switching GDI's doctrine away from walkers and hover units to "cheaper is better" traditional wheels and treads.

My one big wish is that they used the Mammoth Walker instead of the MARV as an epic unit. There are a few other things I’d change gameplay/ unit wise, too. 1- Make the Wolverine trained from the Barracks. It’s about the right size, I think. 2- Speaking of the Wolverine... Shotgun. Same range, but give it a shotgun instead. Maybe an auto grenade launcher as an upgrade (that would function as an instant clear move) 3- With the extra space from the Wolverine moving, give them the Predator. While weaker than the Titan, I’d think the ST would still recognize the value of how it would mesh with their own unique units. Maybe even make it like the concept- where it had a pair of rocket pods like the Mammoth. 4- BloodHounds. Add the MRT. 5- If it garrisons infantry, give it more space to garrison. Maybe 1 for the Behemoth, 2 for the Harvester, 3 for the MRT. 6- Cheaper rail gun turrets and Rigs. 7- Increase combat engineer health. He’s wearing armor, I feel like that should buy him some time.
