I was using Titleist blades with a 110 gram steel fiber shaft. I went to a Callaway fitter and he fitted me with the apex heads and the graphite recoil f-2 shaft. My dispersion went from 40 yards with the Titleist to 10 yards with the apex. I can pull out a club and know how far it’s going consistently now. I picked up 30 yards distance with the change and my scores went from mid to upper 80s to shooting mid to upper 70s with a few low 80s thrown in there too. My son is a PGA pro and took me with him when he did his fitting, it was the best experience in golf that I’ve ever had.

Dont you think perhaps that your pga pro son could have told you years ago that you shouldnt be playing titleist blades when you were shooting in the high 80s with them?Tiger wouldnt have used titleiist blades if he shot in the high 80s...Butch Harmon would have told him get real.

@@lifesaver3499 He did tell me a few years ago, but I only played a couple times a month. Now I’m retired and play once or twice a week so now I’m getting back to my old game when I shot 70s with the blades. A new putter helped a lot too! Haha

Hows the flex? Mine flexs so much it opens the face up causing a wicked slice. why I'm thinking going steel

Switched to the recoil 95g. Didn’t consider swing speed, just comfort. Really enjoy the lighter shaft.

I switched from steel 115g to Recoil 95g graphite this spring after advanced testing with both(steelfiber also)in different weights to find better consistency. I have found it in this particular shaft. Better ball striking throughout my set.

I had Taylormade Speedblades with 85grm Stiff steel shafts. Club fitter got me to hit three balls I went 145 metres at 85mph. He switched me down to Regular flex, 90 gram KBS graphite and I went 152 metres. 66 yr old Aussie.

Coming from a guy who has played golf for 50 years, the biggest difference I have seen over the years has been manufacturers ability to greatly improve dispersion on graphite shafts. I tried graphite iron shafts in the 1980s & 90s with minimal difference in speed but significant difference in dispersion and controlability. Today, I still see similar speeds with Nippon Modus 105s and Steelfiber 95s in my two sets. The big difference is that today dispersion with the Steelfibers (and several graphite shafts I've tried) now have comparable dispersion results with the steel shafts.

I'd agree with your dispersion thought. I just went from 7year old TM Speedblades w Regular 85g steel to Cobra Forged TecX w Regular KBS 75g graphite and couldn't get any spin, feel, height or distance. Got refitted for Regular KBS Lite steel 90g w better dispersion, feel, height, spin and distance. Cobra (Toronto location) fitting site did a wonderful professional fitting that I would highly recommend.

oddly how is your swing needing a stiff shaft. the test you performed shows your swing need a regular shaft flex. or maybe lower.
@mikenortheyes3 жыл бұрын
I’ve done the same type of testing. The bottom line is some people can’t hit the ball as solid with a light shaft therefore they lose distance.

Difference from S steel to R graphite, clubs- Honeycomb USA, 68yrs old, swing speed 85-105mph. So I want to kno if it's worth it to reshaft these clubs to graphite, hv th complete set 2-sw.

New irons can be significantly more forgiving. And most pros don't even play 2 irons anymore. Normal weekend duffers play up to 7, 6 or 5 iron and get hybrids or fairways for longer clubs. I have a 9 wood that I love.

How about doing a KBS Stiff 85 Graphite vs. steel in the P790 comparison and how it impacts mid to higher handicap players. Or does it..

Good video. The other aspect of changing shafts that will affect distance is the change to launch angle. I actually found with the Modus 120 that I hit the ball 5 to 7 yards longer than I did with the 105 simply because it lowered my launch a couple of degrees

It's about the weight, not the material. And if you're getting 2 mph more out of graphite, that's significant. That could translate into 6-8 yards of carry.

Imo graphite feels nicer.

yes but older steel true temper shafts are 132 grams and I made some graphite shafts some 35 years ago and they were 20 yards farther

Even if graphite is better, men won’t use it. Like men who shoot 100+ rounds won’t play from the front tees
