Would you own an homage like this, when the Omega is SO iconic and uniquely designed? I'd love to hear your comments down below. How about a Squale homage? Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2i8i4yIo8pneNU

I have two bronze steeldives. One is a Panerai style 500m and the other is their 1901 with 1000m. Both are big heavy watches that gives presence on your wrist. They are stunning. My heart was in my throat paying so much for a steeldive but they worth it. My favorite watches. Great review 👏 👌

Yes, it’s a little weird when you dive in to the top end of STEELDIVE…but they still offer value even in that category. So, do you let them patina, or do you keep them shiny?

This one is RIGHT on the edge. It wouldn’t come out on its own, but did when fiddling with the crown. I still think I like having the option to remove it better...but maybe not. I’ll try to get one of the new ones when they come out (I have no idea when!) and maybe do a crown guard only video.

I wouldn't bet my house on this 1200 meter WR spec, because it seriously could do the job and probably even more. Why...? Because I have a Cronos Sea Dweller Deep Sea homage and that one was rated a 1000 meters and in the pressure tank reached 2800 meters (yes 280 bar) without problems. It went to 3000 meters, stopped, but back 'on land' it started running again. See the video for yourself here: @

I’m having such a hard time understanding how that crown shroud stays put when screwed down
@WatchWitt
@WatchWitt 3 жыл бұрын
And it’s hard to explain, but it DOES stay put. Basically, there’s a nipple on the end of crown that goes into a channel on the shroud. As the crown is tightened the nipple is forced so slightly towards a narrower section of that channel/trough. That tension, combined with the studs on the shroud that enter the case body form a bond…there is no more space for it to move/wiggle etc. It’s pretty cool engineering!

Great review... That crown guard won't last a week of everyday use. I wouldn't trust it as a backup mechanical instrument to my Cressi computer, not even for 15m dives, I rather go with my Helm Komodo which is ISO 6425 tested. However, for desk driving, and until that crown lasts, it is cool.
@WatchWitt
@WatchWitt 3 жыл бұрын
The crown guard is sturdy, and firmly planted against the case. It's not going anywhere. I couldn't explain it well enough. However, I can understand not wanting to trust it as a backup to a dive computer. I think in the end, even though these watches are labeled for deep dives, we're all interested in them for desk diving...like you mention!
@rodpanhard
@rodpanhard 3 жыл бұрын
I'd have concerns about losing that crown guard, it looks like something that could easily fall off one day.
@WatchWitt
@WatchWitt 3 жыл бұрын
Well, like I mentioned in the video, they have addressed that moving forward. But I will say that with the crown screwed in, that sucker doesn’t budge. No play, wobble, movement, etc. I don’t think I explained it well enough, as I was experiencing it for the first time as well, but the nub on the end of the crown moves closer to the center of the hole on the shroud as you screw it in. So the nub is tight in that hole, pulling the shroud taught against the watch case. I’ve got confidence the shroud isn’t going anywhere while the crown is screwed in. I would be interested to compare this variation to the new stock, though.
@villagranvicent
@villagranvicent 3 жыл бұрын
@@WatchWitt I just don't see what stops that crown to fall off. It is not screwed, or secure by anything. It will fall eventually.
@WatchWitt
@WatchWitt 3 жыл бұрын
@@villagranvicent Engineering. I did a poor job of explaining it in the video. If you go back and look, though, there's a valley/trough on the inside of the crown shroud, which gets narrower. The crown has a nipple on the end that rests in that shroud trough. The crown stem is at a slight angle, so when it is screwed in against the case the nipple travels to the tighter section of the shroud trough. This pushes it to favor one of the two "legs" that insert into the side of the case, and simultaneously inward towards the case. The "legs" are milled so tightly that the combination of the nipple resting firmly in the narrow section of the shroud trough, and the downward (or upward) force against one of those legs plants the shroud firmly in place. I couldn't rip it off if I tried. It's weird, I know. So, their improved version just extended the "legs" a little, I believe, so there was no extra room for the shroud to become disconnected when the crown is pulled all the way out. Also, you can see rubber gaskets on the crown stem in the video, so there is also a seal process going on.

@@villagranvicent I like that too! The crown engineering is pretty slick. It’s hard to explain in text, but as the crown screws in it travels up (or down, I can’t remember) just ever so slightly. That, in combination with the shroud forks inserted into the case, keep it locked in place with three points of contact.
