I am so lucky I have been on these creeks since the 1950s back then we fished for suckers and bass no steelheads but was great when they stocked coho

Great Action Trout Man Considering making the 4 hr drive But before i do would love some advice How deep and how shallow was this stream? Would you say sink tip would be the way to go? My guess for sink tip would be a 10ft 5 ips Sink rate? Would you say indicator with a weight is more productive here? Thanks For your reply
@WildTroutMan23 күн бұрын
Hey Fabios, thanks… Yeah it all depends on the water level. It’s definitely a wadable stream but it goes up fast after a rainstorm and then drops really fast too because the land is so flat. Things can be blown out on Friday and by Sunday it’s very fishable. Conditions were very low until recently. Sink tip after a rainstorm and indicator otherwise, even tight line nymphing is lots of fun. I had good luck on stonefly patterns. So fun…. Like a freight train when you get one on. Keep me posted how you do. 👊

Did you fish weighted streamers? Heading your way end of November.
@WildTroutManАй бұрын
Streams are very low. You won’t need any weight right now.

@@WildTroutMan Thanks. I've looked at the two week forecast - a bit of rain is coming!

@ hopefully!! I’m in the northeast and the Native brookies and Wild browns need some water to spawn.

They are like a freight train when they hit. A 7 wt rod works nice.

Like the video! Only critique is that hand retrieving is not a good idea for steelhead. Put them on the reel with good drag system.
@WildTroutMan2 ай бұрын
I love hand retrieving but getting them on the reel is solid advice. Tight lines!! 👊

First spot’s current is always a challenge
@WildTroutMan7 ай бұрын
That was a hotspot last year behind those submerged boulders. This year the water was lower in January and that section wasn’t holding as many fish. Longer, deeper runs were more productive. 👊

These steelheads are stocked as smolts by the 3CU trout club and go into the lake to grow up. When they return, years later as adults, that's our steelhead fishery...Steelhead are too fishy to eat, C&R.

It’s definitely catch and release for me. Tight lines….. and a gentle release!!

I heard they're fishy because they mainly eat oily baitfish.

apparently your first time using a fly rod and fighting a steelhead , never stay i n one spot move! and try to get across from the fish pulling it from the side , also keep the rod up high and use that reel good thing you had a netter i don't think you would have got that fish the way you were fighting it. You will catch on in time !
