Steelhead Creek Cleanup @ Northgate, 3/13/24

On Wednesday morning, 11 volunteers came out to our Steelhead Creek Weekly Cleanup, to clean a super trashy camp under the Northgate Blvd bridge, as well a debris dam full of floating plastics, shoes, & styrofoam just downstream left after waters rose over the past month or so.
The debris dam gave us easy access to the trash, but the piles of trash under the bridge required us to traverse rip rap and boulders on a steep slope. The thick layer of trash was jaw dropping, even for us. The illegal campers that reside under this bridge let us know what they wanted to keep and what to throw away, but seeing how much was there, we will need to return for at least one addtional cleanup.
A mattress pulled from the creek, tires, clothing, blankets, lots of food wrappers and drink cups, styrofoam pieces, and so much more…

Total haul is estimated at 4,500 pounds, wow!
This was a difficult cleanup, but that doesn’t deter us. We just come back another time to finish cleaning our waterways. 💚

What are your 3 most useful tools, that every guy out there must have, to start doing what you do? Bags, gloves & a grabber tool? I found it all at the dollar store. Can I email you a picture of my dollar store set-up? You have a vision going here that is invaluable to all.

Probably can't limit it to 3. To accomplish what we do, we almost always need strong bags, buckets, grabbers, cultivators, hay hooks (for pulling out mattresses and heavy textiles/carpets), shovels and retractable knives (for cutting large heavy textiles and carpets into manageable pieces.
