Steelheads complete move to Brampton

The city of Brampton is once again host to an OHL team as the Steelheads continue their first season at the CAA Centre after leaving Mississauga. David Zura explains.

The fact that there arent two different teams kilometres apart competing for the exact same market helps. The diehard brampton fans stull largely supported the Battalion up in north bay. Giving the city another chance with less local competition means they can win the support of the battalion holdouts like myself while still keeping the markets in the western GTA. By the sounds of this video, its working so far.

@@Isaweth Except it isn't, crowds are less than stellar, went to a game early in the season to watch my knights and there was less than 2,000 people in attendence, compare that with London, which has a smaller population, who sells out literally every game in a much larger arena at 9,000 seats

Move them to thunder bay they got an arena and they love hockey up there

Problems with that though: 1. Thunder Bay is in the middle of nowhere. The closest team would be Sault Ste Marie and that's still a 10 hour bus ride, travel to Ottawa would take over a day. 2. Thunder Bay would be in the Western Conference, and Brampton and Mississauga before it is in the Eastern Conference. That's why when the Battalion moved, they moved to North Bay and stayed in the Eastern Conference. If they moved to Thunder Bay, a western team would have to move conferences, probably Guelph. and 3. Cornwall. Cornwall has been wanting a team for a long time, and I think that would be a better fit than Thunder Bay.

My mother works with the sister of the General Manager and you're correct. Hazel McCallion kept the rent low to keep hockey in Mississauga, once Bonnie Crombie took over, the rent was jacked up. Since the crowds weren't that big to begin with, the team was loosing money

Love hockey but im concerned, I was always told the rumour was the steelheads didn't market there team probably in Mississauga which ultimately failed to the relocation to Brampton the ohl commissioner should talk to the three cable companies and start broadcasting there games on Sportsnet or tsn or have a separate channel to watch OHL OR CHL FOR That matter that also goes for the AHL for the marlies make deal with flo sports to broadcast there games. Just to throw it out there Can't wait for that multiplex stadium Brampton gonna build the dominant sports will then be soccer and cricket due to its fan power around the world

Rename the team, why would you name an OHL team after a fish. I know it's named after the trout fish in the credit river but still. Credit river doesn't even run in Brampton and it's just a weird name and logo. A fish? come on now.
