The Steelseries Apex Pro gaming keyboard has been hyped up and talked about mostly because of its Omnipoint switch technology. But do these mechanical switches make this the best gaming keyboard of 2019 or are they just a marketing ploy to jack up the Apex Pro price?

I brought one of these and I found it really good and when u muck around with what is on the display it becomes much better (giphs) and the scroll wheel didn’t feel to bad at all. In your video I believe that you had some great points keep up the good vids 😄

Before this keyboard was actually released, I was eager to get one as soon as it was available on stores, but as soon as I discovered that their "special" switches are present in just a few keys instead of all the board, it makes absolutely no sense paying 200 USD for it.

Looks like nothing will compare to Wooting Lekker keyboards. Full analog instead of just 2mm like on the older wooting keyboards. Perfect for HALO 6 and would give u a major advantage since u have fine throttle and handling controls while aiming your mouse. I guess we never needed full analog since theres been nothing like HALO on PC for 20 years lol. Theres still a bunch of games that would see some benefit though

The real application of this keyboards is not in games where you press 6 buttons in total A.K.A CS:GO or DOTA or what ever , this is mainly for MMORPG fast action games where you have like 30-40 buttons pressing in order to play and win and sometimes you miss click some button and other time you dont press hard enough the other.

I tried using my old membrane keyboard and its just garbage. mushy stupid little joints that are cancer to type on and feel like cancerous shit compared to my new mx blue keyboard. I used my friends cherry reds although i dont really like red switches since tactile feedback feels amazing.

Begging for subscribers Have to feed my kids No, but some times you do. I have a Rama Works Koyu. It uses the HHKB layout, but is also a 65% board so it has an extra column on the far right with Home, Pg Up, Pg Dn, End, and right arrow, with the other thrre arrow keys tucked in there next to a short shift. So the "odd" keys I need are: 7U - Space bar 1.75U - Control / Shift 1.5U - Backspace / 2x Fn 1U - \ / Super (I don't want a Windows key, but a Super one) Basically every modern GMK set will have those keys, and it's nearly impossible to find anything else that has ALL those keys. I ordered a custom DSA PBT set from pimp my keyboard, but I wasn't aware I had a 7U space bar at the time, so the 6.25U space I got won't fit and they don't offer a 7U space in the shade I ordered my other keys in, so I'm waiting to hear back from them on whether I can get a 7U space in the shade I need, or I may need to order my white keys again in a shade that a 7U space is available in. I absolutely love this keyboard layout there's no going back, but it is harder to find keycap sets so I'd be sorely tempted at a GMK set if there was one matching the colors I wanted.

ABS isn't bad, bad abs is bad. Try good quality ABS and you'll stop saying that. In general im not huge on people saying ABS is flat out bad as its not and its misleading. Bad keycaps are bad, and most gaming company's use shit quality keycaps. Even Corsairs overpriced PBT feel awful and are super cheaply made. IMO the Apex pro line is still overpriced for what you get.

Thanks for the review, Dimitri! Bought it due to your coverage at Computex, however I find, as you have, the Apex Pro is slightly underwhelming, although many of the features are useful, they can be had on other keyboards at more reasonable prices. My main beef is due to a problem I've been having with the keyboard waking up on initial boot: many times it does not, while every other keyboard I use ( wired and wireless) does not suffer from this. and, Yes, the mombo bios has been updated (X299). Makes it impossible to access the mombo bios when the keyboard does not wake properly. Also, the "bait and switch" ( pun intended) per key RGB capability that was not functional until more than a month later. When you pay this much money for a premium keyboard, it should have ALL features implemented when released. I would definitely look at a less expensive mombo, and Dimitri had some great suggestions. Buyer beware!

I tried both the Apex Pro TKL and the Wooting One. Typing is insanely enjoyable on both, but I prefer it on the Apex Pro, the keys sound and feel higher quality, less rattly and even smoother/softer. But I prefer the Wooting One for gaming BY FAR! The DKS feature and sometimes even the analog feature are too useful for certain things, while the single button actuation customization of the Apex Pro felt kind of pointless for me. Kickstarted peripherals like the Swiftpoint Z and the Wooting keyboards are showing me if you want USEFUL features, they are the way to go. Too many of the features of regular brands are just pointless gimmicks.

There's WAY more games supported now which is absolutely amazing! You can play SNAKES (Snek) on the keyboard which is awesome when you're going through tough times with your net or something to do while waiting for game loading times or respawn timers I'm still experimenting with the settings and stuff but so far, although it's a very 'extra' keyboard, it's worth it's price aha.

The attractive thing about this keyboard is the switches. They're contactless switches. As far as linear switches goes, my lubed gateron inks have more in common with mx reds with sand in them than these omnipoint switches. Contact switches can never beat contactless. Simple as. Good contactless switches aren't really easy to get a hold of, so if you want the smoothest possible linears on the market, this keyboard is unrivaled at the moment. Even the old vintage hall effect switches can't compare.

I have nothing negative to say about it and if this keyboard were to be stolen, wrecked, what have you.. I would replace it with the same exact model. If it weren't so expensive, I'd buy one for work as well.

The thing that holds me back from buying, is I always bottom out. No matter what. And playing counterstrike, id have to turn down the activation as i rest my finger on shift. Therefore pretty much getting rid of the need for the keyboard

Brown are my favorite, and I've tried to mimic these with brown. I love the keyboard, but I believe it needs dedicated media buttons. The wheel and button are aids, and it's hard to figure out the functions you're scrolling thru. The software needs a wheel lock option too.

re. doing the math, if the scale is linear and the range is 1-10 between 0.4 and 3.6, then I think the formula is (3.6 - 0.4) / (10 - 1) × (n - 1) + 0.4 where n is the number on the 1-10 scale, so 5 would be about 1.8, not 1.6…

Try Topre switch ;) In regards to the review; it's so hard to find keyboard that has it ALL this days. I mean for the price, they are cutting corners everywhere and since G710+ years ago (talking about "GAMING" keyboards only) I got yet to find some that I'd say "yea, ok, this is built ok for the price". Before someone says "yea, K95, you know, aluminum" - it has heartbreaking poor plastic keycaps and yet it's expensive as hell. Thin peace of Al does nothing on that point (ok if it was a Zinc alloy that adds to structural integrity...) Back in 2013 when gaming mechanical boards started to rise, you could've get a nicely put together thing for 80-120 euros (just remember what SteelSeries offered back then). Now we have tons of them in 150-250 eur range and every single one of them has compromises in terms of quality; be it not all switches are the same to cut production costs, cheap media keys, absence of DEDICATED macro keys (when I'm working or gaming, can't bother to press combo for a macro), ABS keycaps that are worse than ever, ditching wrist rest etc. Everyone is cutting somewhere and prices just go up. I've been looking to replace the keyboard I'm using for gaming only after I've had the G910 for 5y (which is plastic, but has dedicated macros, media, grade A illumination, costed 130eur instead of 250 and has switches that withstand my torture better than cherry did even though cherry does feel better for typing), but there's just nothing. Huntsman Elite? Worst keycaps of them all. Like really, REALLY poor plastic; same for their media wheel, I had toys with better build. K95 Platinum? Terrible font and also a step down as the keycaps go, also it's VERY expensive and not an option. Then I thought that G815/915 will be the way. But surprise; again, keycaps are shit. VERY "wobbly", cables will also easily stuck under and they pop-off super easy (headset, mice cables etc.). Also switches themselves are laughable; it's just poor keyboard other than looking great. Oh yeah, and it costs more than ex. Ducky Shine 7 (G915). So, I saw the Apex PRO. Ok, there are marked "M" alternate functions and I love the idea of adjustable switches, so I saw the price, that not all keys are the same, POOR OLED/media wheel and superb price (in a bad way). Guess, I'll use my typing keyboard for gaming as well once this G910 dies on me. Very, very bad market choice when it comes down to mechs for gaming. And it's all because we're enabling it. This is one of the rare reviews that actually feel like a review. Many popular youtubers create ad-like "review" videos that are just making me sick and will convince you that high-end priced crap is worth it.

How are the stabilizers on the bigger key-capped areas (Spacebar specifically with thumb placement when on a keypress , Shifts, Enter, and Backspace)?? does the spacebar easily press no matter the thumb position? like a cherry stabilizer, or different??

Great video. I got mine a couple of weeks ago and it was obvious that the keyboard was released too early. The last software and firmware update improved it quite a bit. Some of those advanced feature for the omnipoint can probably be added later since it can obviously register variable distances of the keys in realtime in the onboard software. A bit chicken and egg really. If games don't support it for acceleration when walking etc, then it's some work for nothing. But if no one puts a mainstream keyboard with the feature out, developers won't bother to support it either. Maybe they will do it. It's probably possible to use keymapping software to add analog support to a key. But only if there is a way for the computer to recognize the analog key to begin with.

I just brought the apex pro instead of tkl as it was cheaper, and got delivered quicker as i live in England. I just have a really important question.. is the only difference between the normal apex pro and tkl is the numpad missing? Like will the keys be more spaced out? as i have a 60% keyboard and didnt want to be messing up by buying a full size keyboard that is way bigger, and alot more spaced out than a tkl, when a tkl is already bigger than a 60% which i own like i said. Sorry for the silly question, its my first proper full size keyboard, and its expensive so i want to ensure i dont wait ages, and have to send it back for nothing.. Love the review btw, you convinced me to save up and buy one.
