So glad you picked this album. This song has such a great vibe and The background singers were just outstanding.

This album was a “who’s who” of sax players. Tom Scott (think soprano sax on the McCarney/Wings song “Listen to what the man says”), David Sanborn (Bowie’s “American Girl”, Carly Simon’s “You Belong to Me”) and the late Michael Brecker (Brecker Brothers, Paul Simon’s “Still Crazy After These Years”). They played on many, many albums with some of the most distinct solos. This is a wonderful album that you will enjoy!

Yes Michael Brecker is later featured on one of the great pop sax solos, ever Maxine, on Donald 's solo album.

Babylon Sisters always sounded to me like it belonged on the Aja album. It’s got that feel. Same with Hey Nineteen which is up next. Roger Nichols was the recording engineer for almost every Steely Dan album. His nickname was “The Immortal”. I won’t list it here but he won various Grammy awards for his work with SD and worked with many, many other musicians over the years. He is the genius, along with Becker and Fagen responsible for that perfection in your headphones. ✌️

And don’t forget Nichols built the first drum sequencer ever to use on this record to get those perfect exact drum tracks. You can really hear the drum machine on “glamour profession” and “time out of mind”.

i was just telling a buddy of mine that i started on this album and i thought just from this song it surpassed aja in the mixing and overall sound category. so i totally agree this could have been on that album

Donald and Walter was always heavily involved in the mixing of their albums. Requiring sometimes dozens of takes until they got What they envisioned in their heads.

They made 270 mixes of Babylon Sisters 🙈 then Donald Fagen was satisfied !
