great first you sold me on the pastel lily tetras, now I'm gonna have to try some of these lol. the pastels are awesome btw gonna try and breed them. super peaceful with smaller fish and great eaters as well

Can’t go wrong with the t-bars, all the big cichlid personality and color in a much more pint sized package. I don’t know you, but I can safely say that buying those pastel lillies was one of the best decisions of your life. Keep us posted on the spawning attempts!

These guys get a lot less love than their cousins for some reason. I got my first pair years ago from Justin at Ocean Aquarium in San Francisco. He had been breeding them and I couldn’t pass them up. Awesome little fish with a ton of personality.

They are a great choice of Amatitlania. They are far less aggressive than convicts; however , like convicts, they will hybridize with anything and everything.

True story, I’ve seen a lot of hybrids. They’re the only central I’ve kept besides rainbow cichlids and I did keep them together with no issues luckily.

I love T bars. I’m setting up a 75 gal and I’m debating if I should get one or a pair of T bars. 😊 I don’t know if you’ll respond, but could T bars live with a pair of apistogrammas, curviceps, or similarly smaller new world cichlids? Or would singles be better (no pairs)?

A single would be better unless you are trying to breed them. Although you could probably get away with a pair in a 75 with other dwarfs. But if they spawn they will defend their territory.

Just curious... Why are they called a T Bar? I see the black bar along the midline, but I don't see anything that crosses it to form a "T". I'm probably missing something. Thanks in advance for making me a bit less ignorant.

Like many other species of fish, the name makes little sense. There’s a horizontal bar that can be a bit hard to see that meets up with the 4th vertical bar I believe and loosely forms a T. It’s not easy to see most of the time so really was it an appropriate name? Probably not, lol.

I haven't T-Bars for years and I really miss them. My four aquariums all have shrimps in them. My best and biggest tank is perfect for T-Bars. Will they eat my shrimp?

What kind of tetras were they

The red/blue tetras are Hyphessobrycon Wadai (blueberry tetra) and the others are Nematobrycon Palmeri (emperor tetra) but they’re the black variant.
