Is there a way to completely remove the lock mechanism or bypass the Ignition switch altogether? Theft of my 1985 w201 diesel is the very least of any of my worries.

I grind off the spring loaded steering wheel lock

I’m getting my car towed tomorrow. The key won’t turn it. We tried WD-40 tilted the steering wheel. Do you have any suggestions before I go spend lots of money to get my key to turn it’s a Subaru outback

Ahhhhhh the old steering lock, our failed due to a bad ignition switch in our 82 300 D or 81, cant remember. New ignition switch and it solved the steering lock problems and the engine shut off problem.

On w126 there seems to be 2 types of steering locks: one with the black collar that screws, and one that just pops off. Are these 2 steering locks interchangeable?

it can but not as often. I still would but the 140 does not just lock in the horizontal position.

Hi! I have a 124 300ce and the ignition lock tumbler have completly locked up on me. The car is a 90model and has the wire transmission lock thing to the Shifter so i cannot Even move the car. Is there an easy way to loosen this manually making it more easy to transport, or do i have to drill out the whole ignition steeringlock first to get accsess to slide the wire?

the easiest point to gain access to move the shifter is at the shift mechanism.

My car turns off, then sometimes the tumbler takes a little effort to click it one more notch left (like it’s sticking), then I can pull out the the key. Does that sound like tumbler or the lock mechanism?

tumbler, which is rare, but I would change both. what model do you have?

BTW people if your driving an older Mercedes with vacuum locks and they don't work, you should fix them immediately.

ok, the steering wheel only locks horizontally...I usually park with my wheel vertical so it does not engage the steering lock.
