I have a 79 dodge D100, that truck is all over the road. Rebuilt the front end and got it aligned that helped a lot . New tires , next is steering stabilizer and new steering box. Hopefully I can get it close to a normal steering system that is less fatiguing to drive. Also has new coil springs and shocks and new control arm bushings. I've looked at the frame very closely and it has no sign of ever being wrecked. I also put inch and a half spacers on the front to get a wider more stable stance. So far each thing has made it better. I built a flat bed on the back and moved the gas tank to the back between the frame rails the front end may need a little more weight to help it. Maybe this lengthy detailed post can help someone along the way. Very good video.

You need to hit a big pot hole with ONE front wheel during cornering, to see the real effect of the steering damper. You can drive on a smooth surface all day long, and not see any difference what this damper does.

Jason Wou true but these trucks don't care I had mine stolen off my truck drove it for a few years no problems finally got one back on just because, ripped it off about 3 weeks later on a rock off-road. That was 5 years ago haven't bought another because they hang so low never have any steering issues
@kylenajjar4548 Жыл бұрын
So I did a bunch of work to my front end. All of it in fact except the stabilizer was replaced and aligned properly. Hit a pot hole, and it overextended my stabilizer and dumped all its grease out. Which of course I didn’t notice until I took everything off again and reinstalled again following a death wobble that I felt after hitting the pothole. Got a new one on the way so hopefully it fixes the issue.

I think you should have tried different speeds. Most of the time cavitation usually happens at certain situation only. The big tires might wobble on the freeway when there are rain grooves cut into the street etc...

Great video, I have a 2003 Ford f150 5.4 4x4. Just did a 5inch with 35s.. it kinda shakes a lil.. Should it be a good idea to add a steering stabilizer.? And my question is. What does the stabilizer DO TO YOYR TRUCK what’s the difference with it or without..? Thank you 🙏🙏

So stabilizers go either way? Shaft on tire side or middle? Depending on car and stabilizer ... or maybe most have the shaft connected to the middle.

Wld this cause a severe shake at highway speeds from 68-78 mph. I just had new tires put on about 2 months ago. Didint have this shake before new tires. Replaced all u joints and still have the shake. It will shake between those speeds then stops after a cpl mins and wont donit again til the nxt day. 01 gmc 1500 4x4. Stock..

Chris Holmes tires need rebalanced. or they shake when cold but when they warm and soften they smooth out.
@cholmes491287 жыл бұрын
Its was the tortion bars being cranked way to high causing bad angle on shafts up front. Previous owner put a 3" leveling kit on it and cranked them all the way. Pretty wild trying to figure it out. Thanks for the comment joe smith
@SgtJoeSmith7 жыл бұрын
Chris Holmes no prob. I had tires rotated and balanced on ranger but then on free way after topping 65 started shaking going home. I determined it felt like front drivers side. Went back and they reballanced that tire and all was fine then.

Ball joints can more or less lock up when they get old, they should move smoothly with just a little friction (tightness, as in no play and still greased good), they can squeek or sound like a wooden sailship hull when going bad.

Please place the tools on the ground and not just drop them. U did not explain exactly what steering dampers do really. To be honest any F250 or 350 with anything over 35 inch tires and no new ball joints will have death wobble. Ford front ends are junk. I know this I own a 350

I hit a pothole and my steering goes all over the place. Do you know if the 06 Nissan Frontier CrewCab Se has a steering stabilizer or can one be installed? ***** As far as I know it happens to any vehicle with a solid front axle with coil springs, because the coil springs can flex in all directions it allows less stability in side to side motion causing shimmying or if parts get loose it is full on uncontrollable death wobble. Jeep XJ WJ TJ and JK are just about expected to have death wobble at some point in their life and if they go off road alot it can happen sooner due to worn out tie rod end's, U joints, control arms etc.

Installed air cooler for oil and bypassed tranny lines to another air cooler. Some models have defective radiators and leak into tranny therefore ruining the tranny. I used to do all kinds of work without really caring what I got on my hands. I'd go days or weeks afterward with cracked, dry skin filled with black residue, and if I wanted to get my hands clean would take serious effort and large amounts of orange pumice hand cleaner. Now I just throw on a pair of gloves. Quicker and easier, and, big surprise, it turns out that most chemicals used in mechanical applications are in fact toxic and you don't really want them eating away at your skin. Go figure.

There are many reasons. One is safety, a lot of the chemicals soak into your skin and can cause rashes or skin damage or even cancer over time. This is not a debated fact, it's been proven. But the second and more practical reason is it's cleaner. I like to be able to take my gloves off and go inside and get a glass of water or answer my phone without getting grease everywhere.
@markusgarvey4 жыл бұрын
@@TruckStuff1 I can debate it because it's never happened to me. But there are a lot of people who can eat lutefisk too and I'll throw up if I smell it. But my point is I it looked kind of extreme, that you weren't really working in a greasy environment you were just busting a rusty nut on a lower suspension piece. I will admit I do like to pressure wash anything before I start working on it. It IMHO we are soft as a culture. When I was young I I swapped a small block Chevy in a snowstorm in a parking lot in Wyoming, in the middle of winter. And the guy before me drug a wagon train full of people through snowstorm in Wyoming.. And then when they got to where they were going they had to start everything from scratch they didn't have any hotels running water etc. etc. etc. also those gloves seem like such a waste resources to me. Be a good thing if we had a solar flare that wiped out our power grid and then people get to see what real life is like and they would appreciate things a lot more people don't appreciate anything anymore take everything for granted I'm not trying to judge him just to making an observation Just think about it ,were like on the edge of the Civil War that could get really ugly and shut down supply lines to stores and gas stations that and a majority people in this country would be clueless if they had to make a fire or kill dress an animal to survive. Sorry I guess I'm going off on a tangent here something about seeing his gloves on your hands triggered that.
@TruckStuff14 жыл бұрын
Also, consider that I work in healthcare (I'm a paramedic) I'm used to wearing gloves for everything and I certainly don't like to have grease stains on me when I go to work.
