Thanks for the video. Could you please clarify how to correct for the Lt House height with regard to tide, as the height is given from MHWS.
@krutikamanjrekar935 жыл бұрын
Nicely explained. Thank you for doing. A doubt in this. why didn't you apply index error in vsa?
@SteeringMariners5 жыл бұрын
Hi Krutika, very good question. In this case, I assumed that the sextant had no errors (all errors were corrected for). If index error exists in a sextant (it most likely will), we should definitely apply it.

Very useful understood the concept fully thank you sir. One small doubt that tan 1deg 14min how it got changed to tan1. 233
@SteeringMariners5 жыл бұрын
if you divide 14/60 you will get .233.Then add it to 1 degree to convert 1 deg 14 min to 1.233. Hope this clear.

How can VSA be used to calculate the compass error?
@aneeshmijar91383 жыл бұрын
Amazing video sir 👍🏼. Just wanted to know that since the height of the light house is from MHWS and its not necessary that we will be at MHWS so their might be error in the height that we are taking. So what to do?
@BarkBarque Жыл бұрын
You need to correct for the height of the tide at that time and place. Add the difference if the level is below MHWS, subtract if the level is above MHWS.

Thos is very good. Two things: it is easier to multiply by cot (theta) than to divide by tan. Second, and rather more important: the angle correction is wrong because the distant horizon, which you would see if the island was not there, is not the same as the altitude of the sea at the foot of the island. The correction is complicated, but provided the altitude of the object is less than about 5 degrees, the correction almost perfectly cancels out the eye height correction you have made. In other words, dont bother with the correction.

Are you talking about a dip angle 📐 to the Horizon ?
