Stefan was the only one in the show who thought about other people before himself. He died so he could save his big brothers life so he could have an eternity with Elena. Stefan was the true hero in the vampire diaries and we all know it. I wish I could have a brave and heroic brother like that!

damon was always saving stefan.. he was the hero in the whole series.. lets get that straight!!!.. he was always saving him from death, the vault in the ocean/water. from himself, his blood thirst.. in the beggining stefan was called the RIPPER for a reason.. he had no humanity.. then after the 4th or 5th season he fall in love with elena then he got his humanity halfway back... the damon went off the scale and did the same thing.. so they was saving each other in almost every sceen!! no one was really the savior or hero... damon will always be my favorite along with carolina and klaus!!!

people like to say that Damon had the most tragic storyline which he did have one, but when you think about, Stefan's is just as tragic. 1. he lost the woman he loved to his brother, and acted happy for them. 2. he then dies for their happiness. 3. his brother killed his best friend 4. he goes on blood benders that make him feel guilty and alot of hatred for himself. 5. all he wants is to be human and have a family, which he never really gets. 6. throughout the series he always tries to do what's best for everyone else instead of himself. 7. for me is pretty tragic... he always put his brother first, and majority of the time it was not reciprocated.

This hurt me until i realized something. Stefans life was more misererable than damons could ever be. When he was a ripper....he wanted nothing more than blood. He was a slave...a ripper and all that guilt consumed him. If anyone deserved hell....it would be stefan. I didnt want stefan to go to hell because of what katherine did to them. But you know whats sad...stefan took damons place because damon didnt deserve to die alongside a wench that never loved him. Deep down, stefan felt guilty for what he did to save damons life by turning him into a vampire. He saved his big brother one final time...by granting his wish--to be human. The final scene with katherine in stefans arms as he utters "go to hell katherine" broke me. Katherine wanted to die with stefan more than anything. She ruined stefans life by making him a ripper that craved blood...and he would be free of guilt in death. When he pushed open those school doors...and saw lexi waiting for him....he had never been so happy to not feel the pain or hunger he once felt as the ripper. Thats when i broke. He is free...and finally he saw the one person who had protected him all his life. The person who had missed him as much as he had missed them---the door swings open..."Damon..." It was never about Elena, it was about the two brothers wanting to get back to each other.

But something did really hurt me m in the series dt after being so unselfish nd selfless at all times after looking for everybody's wellbeings nd after doing so much for Elena....he cared more for others dn himself he protected Elena rescued her every time if dn Dre is a danger.... Stefan like evraftr....y didn't she let go of Damon...while making out with him was the only choice nd fun did she has left with her....it was really frustrating to watch Stefan being so loyal nd genuine to Elena nd still she refused to accept the fact dt it he was only d one..nd only......I was feeling to sueee the writter....r direc..y wasn't it brought d happy ending whr Stefan had found wht he deserved nd hoped for.....wht a fate.....?!!😔☹️
