My name is Claudia I have been an artist my whole life. At 73 I have tried many forms of visual art including relief sculpture and most of what I did was to make my living. I worked for a time directing a staff of very talented artists who did relief sculpture for the company and was familiar with their levels of skill. At this time I want to add if I may, to another sense of seeing, tasting and so forth it is touch. Fearful of sculpting for the first time ever, I explained to them that if they could draw it, their renderings were beautiful, then they could sculpt it. And when we touch with our hands if possible it adds to our seeing another dimension we "draw" from. I also love photography, which is up close and personal for me another story for another time. I just love your videos and methods of teaching because they evolve and speak to the hearts of us who love to learn....Claudia Davis, Pittsburgh PA

This talk really touched me as it so eloquently articulates the true virtues of art given it's ability to communicate using visual language far beyond the knowable. It directly connects to me like a shot from a cannon. Very grateful for coming across such a beautiful, graceful message.

Paint what you see is profound. Rarely are our eyes allowed to drink in more than a few moments at any given time. When we stop and really see, it's amazing and overwhelming the color and simple beauty that is really there. Capturing it is the wow in a beautiful piece of art.

I had a high school art teacher that took us on walks in the neighborhood. He'd find a building, make us study it. With no sketches or cameras, we learned how to LOOK at things and remember what we saw; shadows, symmetry; patches of light, proportion. Back in the classroom, he'd make us sketch what we remembered and it was amazing how much we trained our brains to truly observe the structure of things around us.

Art is the utilization of a medium (paint, music, dance, theatre, etc) to express ideas, emotions and thoughts in a manner that transcends everyday language. Artwork conveys the same emotions and ideas to people across the globe regardless of one's language or culture. Art brings together all people to a shared experience. While individuals will find something personal in an artwork that speaks to them the experience is shared with all who witness the art. Art is the universal language.

I believe that Art is creating a experience that is mental, emotional, physical, and sensual. An artist has also the experience of creation. Great Art has experiences that can change as the viewer grows in maturity, in knowledge, and in experiences.

I have unsubscribed to all my KZbin painting channels. I have taken your advice and unplugged. I started painting back in the mid 70s I went to art school and learnt a lot and like most young art students, I started with pastels, then acrylics and finally oils. I painted consistently for 5 years, then stopped. 2020, thanks to the covid virus, semi-retired, I started to paint again and BAM! On eating up all these KZbin painting channels; I'm copying painting after painting. Then, I found your teaching/coaching videos. Thank you. You reminded, rekindled the techniques I learnt way back in art school, the golden ratio, CFP (central Focal point) eye magnets and so much more. Thank you Sir. Big Up and nuff Blessings from Jamaica 🇯🇲🙏🏽❤️🎨🖌️🌄

I took a philosophy course on college where we discussed the question, “what is art?” For half a semester. Our class conclusion was, “Art is anything that the art community deems as art.”

I am guessing the battery ran out on the camera. Mid-sentence, just before the biggest point in the video... The Point: We are all "taught" to see things a certain way. We have "un-learned" to be expressive and free to see the world from our own point of view. We have chained our conciseness into blinders, and gone down a path in which all Sun's are yellow, all bricks are red, all grass is green, and all sky's are blue. A world where purple cows do not exist.

Still Checking out your tools, paints used.. Was working on the birds , still am. but doing a few wildlife, that are found in my state, ..Not Sure what direction this country is going in. Hoping I can finish my book, before it will become insignificant, even though will represent the state I live in.. ONLY 2 others I found who touch painting with TEMPERATURE. YOU TUBE is where I discovered your Podcasts. and I would do exercises to do your exercise HOME WORK. Pinecone, a Leaf, Eggs, ... Love your stories. Owen Gromme , told me to one day "Paint WHAT I SEE IN Wisconsin Nature",, That is what I am doing. He also was a Friend Later of Robert Batemans ,,,Ah, yes , I too Love " Moonlight Sonata". Must admit painting is Very intimidating , I have to get rid of the white, on the canvas, and it warms up. OOP's your segment was done when mother took all her child's art work off the refrigerator . Did not get to hear the rest,,,

Really looking forward to this! Speaking of the different online sources... KZbin is my main place for art videos. My second place is by buying tutorials (often from Gumroad, sometimes directly from the artist website). I hate facebook videos and prefer to buy tutorials instead of having a subscription through patreon.
