Re-taking your JS Foundations course since the first time I did it I would have you on x1.25 or ever x1.5 speed sometimes. Silly me. No clue what you're talking about here. I've taken and completed his html, css, javascript, php, python, learned typescript, java, etc and have been a fullstack developer that has worked with 4-5 companies so far over the course of 2 years. I always learn at 1.5x - 2x the speed unless the course instructor is fast speaking then it's 1.25x the speed. The goal is to learn the information as quick as possible but if the information is complex like learrning scala and clojure, I'd say take it at normal speed since those are more complex topics. I've been programming for 8+ years though so it's kinda hard remembering when I was a beginner.

Great video Stefan. The one good thing about getting a degree in web development and design is that I will have both text book projects and group projects to show a prospective employer. I am also working a a few on my websites on my own to include in that portfolio.

Hi Stefan. Great video. Definitely giving free services is great to build experience and reputation. However can you guide us how to sustain financially in those period of time because as a freelance we don't have any other income. Do you suggest to take a part time job? I currently work for a investment company as systems administrator. I am currently learning Python. I’m thinking to quit my job in 8 weeks and perhaps do contract work as a Python developer. How easy can I get a Python coding work? I don’t have real world experience. I’m working for training videos on udemy and plural sight. What types of insurance do I need when contracting?

Stefan - we really have to talk, man . . . about money. You've said that the going rate for a simple brochure site (e.g. for a local store, laundromat, small office business) would be around $500. Now that's all right until you think how each small business owner wants his own distinctive logo and logotype (this is the business name beside the logo in stylized form - think of the Coca-Cola name in its distinctive font) and expects you to cover this within the $500 budget you quoted. Getting these done by a pro graphic artist for less than $150 is impossible. (Logo registration fees would cost ~ $500 but small businesses don't usually do this.) And that cuts the heart out of your profit margin. My solution was to teach myself Inkscape and do the logo and logotype myself - not pro standard at all but well beyond goofer standard. How do you make out on this thin margin ? Is logo and logotype design a part of your famous course ? Open up to the world on this one, Buddy !

@Señor Encore Option 1 is a waste of time. For brochure sites the client isn't short of sense to see the argument about adaptable code - they are simply short of the money to pay for it. Different for sites with back end, see option 3 below. And there's a trail of other guys lying they'll do EVERYTHING for $500. Option 2 means people will soon be saying that "All XXXXXXXX's sites are the goddam same!" How about Option 3: Try to find a designer who will barter some front- and/or back- end coding for logo/logotype/layout design work. Biggest problem here is compatibility between coder and designer. But if found, it's the ideal combo . . . Coder should have a better chance of a good partner if they use Node.js and a Node-based CMS rather than those slowcoach PHP CMSs like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc. This way they can HONESTLY say that their site is FASTER than PHP type web apps. This means less server power needed for the same user load - meaning less hosting cost per month. PHP CMS sites might be easy to put together but they drink server capacity. So the Node.js site will cost more to code up but the added cost is recovered in hosting savings in a year or less.

Certification is a tested process… you have to pass a test. Most courses online provide certificates of completion … no testing.
