I have been feeding birds for years. It's a family tradition and I often get bird feeders as Christmas presents. There are few things I enjoy as much as working in my garden and it being silent except for the bird songs! Just love birds!

Same here! So what if they take some veggies or fruit. I certainly do not find sharing with these beautiful lil creatures who give me so much enjoyment.

I picked up the bird seed hoarding tip from you on a previous video. I did it this year and I had ZERO problems with worms in my grapes!! Thanks for the tip!

its amazing to me that even up here in northern Oregon with snow and ice storms, once i put out a hummingbird feeder they appear in about a day. These things that are so delicate you can crush them between your fingers somehow live in freezing wet temperatures year after year just amazing.

It's one of my favorite parts of spring/summer. Waking up early, before the birds. And you'll hear the first bird of the morning sing. I dont understand why, but it's always just a single bird. Then the rest get started.

Here it’s robins and song sparrows, there’s always one that starts while it’s still dark out.

Your presentation and information was useful and enjoyable. I am on my way immediately after watching this to venture to the feed store, and begin the beauty of feeding and having various birds in my garden!

You're welcome, and good luck with the birds but be careful it’s a good addiction.

Stefan I hope i have a neighbor like you someday 😊 I feed birds at my place by planting things the birds like to eat and allowing things that grow on their own to continue. I also benefit from birds manure by placing nest boxes on the outside ends of grapevine posts to give the grapes a little fertilizer.

I have 100 sparrows that I feed seeds to, for the last 7 years. I love them and they eat a bunch of insects in the garden and they rarely hurt my veggie garden.

A metal Slinky toy has kept squirrels off my bird feeder pole for years.

Huh, first time I’ve heard of using a slinky. Nice one.

I’ve discovered that by attracting the seed eaters, the insect eaters follow. 4 years to setting a variety of seed, and my garden is usually picked clean of caterpillars. First year ever of zero tomato horn worms!! I love going out and seeing dozens of birds flitting through my orchards and garden beds.

Carefully with 15 ft distance from windows. When hawks flush the feeder birds, some crash into the windows. Some recommend the 30 rule for feeder placement near windows. I have used window bird tape and it works great. Lasted 10 years so far. Significantly fewer window strikes.

I use safflower almost exclusively because squirrels won't eat it. I still get tons of chickadees, finches, cardinals, and doves.

Ha ha ha, it also attracts squirrels and CHIPMUNKS. Lots of chipmunks. Apparently we don't put out enough, because they ravaged our fall garden!

I feed the birds here in Louisiana and the Cardinals swarm my vegetable garden and lawn in spring to feed their young. I saw one male that looked and acted weird pecking and hopping over and over and grabbed my binoculars. His beak was stuffed with grasshoppers and he was trying to fit one more in his mouth! Ha. I planted a bunch of dwarf everbearing mulberry trees mostly for them this year too. I forced one to fruit by pruning late this year and they loved them.

Thank-you for posting this video! I would add that some areas need to be careful of outdoor cats interested in hunting birds. One might have to avoid tall thick grass too close to the bird feeder for the cat to stalk and sprint from. We want the birds to have enough time to see the cat and react before they become the cat's dinner.

A hummingbird was getting nectar from my Italian Parsley flowers this fall. So I got a cheap feeder and white sugar for the ones migrating through Louisiana. The ones who showed up didn`t hang around feeding for more than a few days except one aggressive male who finally gave up trying to guard it.

I broadcast most of my bird seed so bully birds can't horde all the food for themselves. I also have cover bushes in my yard like large rose bushes and forsythia, along with a bird bath that I keep filled and clean. I buy peanuts, sunflower hearts and cracked corn and mix it for my own no waste mix. It's a little pricier but there is no gravel dust like hardware stores put in their mixes and everything gets eaten.

I bought a little birdhouse for a pair of Tufted Titmouse birds who always show up first at dawn daily when I carry sunflower seeds out. I`m trying to decide where to put it so I can see it from my steps.

Any tips for feeder placement in a pasture setting for ground nesting birds?
