I've already commented this once but I copied and pasted so I didn't have to re-explain. Honestly if you think about it they were endgame despite Stefan marrying Caroline. Because throughout the show the doppelganger thing kept bringing them back together. Because they didn't end up together destiny made them die together so that they could at least die together if they kept breaking up in life and sure you can argue that Katherine ends up in hell while he's at peace but destiny can't control the afterlife. It only controls you in life. It's still a depressing ending and not the ideal ending to an AMAZING ship. Elena didn't deserve Stefan and I am a Delena fan and I believe Elena took advantage of Stefan because she was depressed and she needed him to cure her depression. Yes, you could say both Katherine and Elena lost their families and Katherine is evil and Elena is "too sensitive" but they're two different people and people have to cope in different ways. Same face, different people. And yes, Katherine took advantage of Damon just because he loved her but Katherine with Stefan and Elena with Damon made them good. It's just Katherine wasn't given a REAL second chance to change therefore she went after Mystic Falls and dragged Stefan with her. 😂

I never felt they ruined it. I loved their relationship. Katherine, however, was damaged beyond repair. She couldn't relax or live as she wanted with Klaus in the back of her mind. Imagine she'd managed to steal Elena's body successfully and got to live as 'herself'. There would have been something symmetrical in that for her. Her life was stolen, she spent over 500 hundred years on the run and then suddenly 'with the same face' she was free.
