Arya was not looking ahead by picking the Tickler, but the Tickler was more of an immediate threat than Joffrey in King's Landing. If this explanation is not enough, Arya was presented with this power from an unexpected drop from a cloud and acted on impulse due to former reason.

I think that Tywin (Jamie, Cersie and Tyrion's father), knows that Aria is a girl but he does not know that she is a Stark. Hope that helps to clear that up for you?

If he knew he would never have left her to walk around freely. She is really valuable as a hostage becasue he is at war with her brother. He could exchange her for Jamie. I always liked Tywin, Charles Dance did an amazing job portraying that character. A very pragmatic and realist character whose only goal is to further the Lannister dynasty. I can respect that. And yes their relationship was really funny and imho very important becasue it showed what kind of man he really is. And he very much liked how smart Arya was. He would've likely be a very good father if they werent the prominent Lannister family carrying the burden of the entire lineage.

when Tywin arrives at harrenhal or whatever he immediately ids her as a girl & give his soldier a lashing for being so stupid as to think it a boy. Tywin also later identifies her as a northerner but at no point does he ever suspect its Aria or a stark other wise he clearly would not allow her to be his cup bearer & would hold her hostage for jaime & the surrender of the stark army. Why do people continue to not see the obvious Tywin never sees her as Aria but just a girl from the north. At times he might suspect but clear once she admits being from the north & makes up a new town getting the family & banner right Tywin clearly starts believing her as who she claims to be & any suspension of her actually being a stark fades.
