Stegodon 3000 lb. winch unbox and wiring hook up.

How to wirer the Stegodon 3000 lb winch very simple, and book instructions are very poor.

Bang for the buck these little winches are great.If anybody out here is considering using one for somewhat light duty say 1000 lbs. or less you can fabricate a mounting plate for control box to mount on and leave enough room to mount a DIY battery power adapter.Believe it or not I use a 20volt DIY adapter (harbor freight style battery) to avoid using a large 12v battery. works just fine. IT WILL EASILY PULL A 2 /3 PERSON PWC up onto a trailer no problem.You can use a 12v diy adapter however the reason why I chose 20v is... as the motor loads up, the voltage out of the diy adapter will drop and current will rise.If you start at 18-20volts it will drop to about 15 under load.A diy adapter should be sufficient enough to pull a zero turn or small lawn tractor (say the size of his cub cadet mower) out of a slide or ditch.These work great if you are trying to load a 18-20' runabout or less onto a trailer. The weatherproof remote will allow you to even get out of your watercraft and guide your boat on your trailer as you pull your boat onto your trailer.A foam orange key float is ideal for attaching to remote in case you drop it in the water accidentally.

BTW, the red wire hanging out of the loom going to the rocker switch is meant to go to the vehicle's keyed power circuit so that the winch can only be activated by the rocker switch when the vehicle is turned on. It does not carry a lot of current since it is used only to activate the solenoid. That red wire is not required to be connected for the winch to be operated by the remote control. Also, my manual indicated that red and black wires were to be attached to the motor, which was absolutely incorrect - they are yellow and blue as shown here.

Question is the switch a rocker switch? In other words no need to tap into a “keyed” wire ie on/off with key?

hold both buttons down at the same time for about 3 seconds light will come on will go off by itself when done

@@jgriff19861947 ok on the remote you mean. Got it. What about after that is the unit pulling any power when it’s not actively pulling in or out? Guess the little black box takes care of that?
