Steigermarsch Silbermann Orgel Freiberg Bert van den Brink

What a privilege for me to be invited to play the Silbermann organ from 1714 in Freiberg in a concert june 22nd 2023.
The organist Albrecht Koch who is really supporting and stimulating and creating possibilities around this beautiful instrument organized a perfect situation for preparing the concert for me.
Together with the Dutch organist Joël Boone who assisted me in the concert we could really take our time to rehearse and enjoy the instrument!
While in a rehearsal Albrecht told about the initiative to record the Steigermarsch also on this instrument one of these days. He proposed me to play this tune and so it happened the morning after the concert that a great camera team installed a lot of equipment to make this beautiful recording of this folk song that I played in jazzy style.
The instrument touched me deeply and even more because this organ has been maintained so well but is more or less in original state! Even the keys you are touching with your hands are almost 300 years old, can you imagine?
I really hope to return to Freiberg to experience this magnificent instrument again.

I used to tease one of my theatre friends relentlessly about how I wanted a “tracker theatre organ.” It would never work, he said. Well, after hearing this, I’m not so sure. It’s brilliant and I love it!

Maybe a visit to Freiberg Cathedral is worthwhile for you. Of course, there's more here. The World's largest collection of minerals, for example. And we have a nice little Theatre. Dresden is also only 35 km away.
