Wonderful, I've never seen how he makes those sounds. Being that this series is *impossible* to find, I would love more too!!

Thanks for sharing this time capsule. Im not a guitar player but I do appreciate Torn's unique approach and understanding of space and sound in his playing. ECM would have never gave him a recording contract had he no talent and he is American to boot!

The TT3 only goes two half steps up and two half steps down, meaning 1 full step and 1 full step down. The TT2s range is 1 1/2 steps up and 3 full steps down so the TT2 is more flexible in that regard. Kramer Kommander

ok so how did Ed Van Halen keep his tuning down or up like he does in summer nights it's obvious he goes down in tuning for the solo. and then back up for the intro and chorus

I agree the heading is appropriate, especially since the important hardware was made by Steinberger, and the rest of the guitar was a short lived Steinberger model. I thought i would mention that Klein made it incase anyone wanted to search for more info on that particular guitar. thanks for posting the clip.

Surprised no one took this over and makes them available for any guitars. Pretty slick for the time.

BTW, I do own a "ugly" Klein. With regular S-trem, not this one. Most comfortable and best sounding gutiar I've ever owned. Main workhorse. And I do have owned quite a few. I timed my change of a full/all 6 string set the other day, double ball end. In a mere 3 minutes and 40 seconds, I was up and running with everything in tune. Try do that on a guitar with a Floyd Rose trem!

I have a lefty GL4TA and hve been trying to get just a replacement arm for over a year (totally differnt to the righty arms) the new TT3 is out now, you can get TT2's from musicyo, and it looks like the Chinese TT3's are comming fairly soon

Has this video ever been issued on DVD? I remember when it came out, it seemed really expensive, something like 50 bucks for two VHS tapes. Anyway, I never got around to getting it, even though Torn is one of my favorite guitarists.

It went from a major chord down to the relative minor. So not a parallel drop.

@brandon9271 First of all, this is a Klein guitar, it just has a Steinberger bridge system. Also, who cares if it's hideous? Function over form. If you really don't like the look of it, keep it in the studio. Save your 'Paul for the stage and have fun with the side digging into your ribs, trying in vain to comfortably reach the higher frets, plus breaking your back and so on and so forth
@hughjarrse
@hughjarrse 15 жыл бұрын
"anyone know where can get just the bridge" They turn up on ebay from time to time, and Steinberger/Gibson have devloped an TT3 that's used on some ne Steinbergers

Sorry mate I just realised what you meant (I thought you were someone pushing DVD shrink) the VHS tapes are NSTC when I copied them onto my HD of my DVD recorder everything seemed ok, but when I tried to copy from the HD to a disk it wouldn't let me, so I can't get a disk to put in my laptop to upload (I think that makes sense)

Oops, I used my pc while someone else was signed in to you tube, yeah that's pretty much all he has to say on the trans-trem, assuming your right handed gibson now offer the TT3 on some of their steinberger guitars so they might be worth checking, I have a gl4ta with a lefty TT and it's been murder getting a replacement arm, if you have a PO box I'm happy to send you a copy of the Torn disk

Hey, Great tremolo system but what the heck does that bent up chord at 1:58 (Exactly 1:58) Remind me of? I've started to think it is something from Vegas Vacation or some scene from a movie where a woman was wearing a coconut bra...? (Sorry, It is driving me up the wall!)

Quite correct, but the general guitar playing public would construe it a a Steinberger, the Lorenzo made guitars are also mistaken for Steinbergers, I think for the purposes of youtube a generic "Steinberger" heading is appropriate

Ha didn't realize Eastcoast Music was owned by him. I seem to recall he was advertising both Ed Roman and Eastcoast Music for an overlapping period. Not sure maybe he was out of Eastcoast music before I saw the Ed Roman web site, originally tagged as being in Fairfield, CT. which is just north of the Danbury Prison. Had been going there on and off, mostly off, for years never had anything I was looking for...

I've got a GL2TA and the trem has been broken for years. I'd love to find a replacement at less than half the price I paid for this guitar. That said, shouldn't the patent be running out soon? Maybe we'll find these made cheaply in china in a few years ;-)

@ChainsawVsGod It may look weird, but it's ergonomically designed, like holding a woman close to your body, caressing your every curve. Feels a lot better than your average BC rich, I'll bet you that much.
@101Volts

I'm sure it can't be that. It wasn't a song, Just a sound effect that was used for one part even though it was on a guitar.

If you want replacement part for your original transtrem, and if you're in U.S.A . I know a guy who make them by himself from quality metal and he do lot of other kind of stuff for other Tremolo, a kind of tremolo fan hahaha , now i'm in China i don't have his adress in my bookmark but as soon as i come back at home please leave a PM in youtube and i'll send you to him, he will do the job for a good price and maybe it's just a little part he already made in series .

@WoWintosh yeah i dont know which one you played. the SPIRITS made now-a-days are worse than the musicyo ones, but theyre also $400 bucks or so. any of the steins worth their salt are around $1000 and mine was the best guitar i ever had.

It's actually a totally ergonomically designed guitar, the aesthetics were the last consideration Klein doesn't make them any more, and Lorenzo is in poor health, you couldn't get one for much under $6,000 these days

@WoWintosh functional I think its a sweet guitar.. but I'd prefer a steinberger style body or maybe a flying V.. This weird, asymmetrical melted lump of cheese body style isn't for me ;) but neither is a Les Paul.. I'm more of an Ibanez RG, JS, or Radius kinda guy :)

Find it funny that ppl here, think you have to 1) buy this "ugly" guitar just to get the Trem system. 2) Can use any other strings than double ball end. Not so my friends. There are more regular - not ugly - Steinbergers out there with this TT system on than this ugly Klein guitar. The most crucial thing about this whammy bar is that you just have to use calibrated double ball end strings. Using a head to use ordinary strings will render TT pretty useless. You can't bend it like that, then.

I don't think so, but apart from that you would be knackering a classic guitar, maybe you should consider selling your old guitar and putting some of the money into a new steinie with TT3, I'm not hustling you, I'm lefty ... :o)

@wampaku2 I tried a Spirit recently, the small square bodied one. Absolute crap. Ugliest rosewood I've ever seen, terrible pickups, sounded like it was covered by a blanket, no clarity whatsoever, sticky uncomfortable neck, tuners frequently got stuck, it was just crap. I would get one STRICTLY for travel.
