Is it? Maybe it's because I read the VN first but this is still a situation where he's got 4 girls and one guy in love with him, even if 2 of them aren't from the start. It fortunately avoids /most/ of the tacky harem romcom tropes, but I still wouldn't call it real

Kyouma has two names because "Hououin" is his weeb name. Roughly translated, "Hououin Kyouma" means something like "Phoenix of Catastrophe". Okabe Rintarou is his real name and is actually normal, shortened to OkaRin with his friends. "El Psy Congru" is butchered Latin and is supposed to translate to "The mind agrees"

one nice thing to keep in mind is that S;G was made to be "real" or at least as close to real as could be. all buildings and streets shows are real, the travel times(not time travels) and distances between this places are also adjusted to be real. a nice bonus In the games we sit through "kurisu" demolishing "Okabe" through the eleven most "theoretically realist" potential time travel theories, shoting down trought diferent subatomic theories (not only strings theory). her point wasn't that was completely impossible theoretically but to control in any useful way would need infinite energy or infinite control.

Just a tip: Okabe is a textbook chuunibyou as the visual novel calls it. It literally means "eighth grade syndrome" talking about how younger teenagers act, creating little scenarios in their head pretending they have powers and stuff. That was a rough explanation, but that is the gist of what Okabe is. Also, heads up, I don't know if anyone really cares, but the official translation is Luka, not Ruka, as stated by the official translation of the visual novel, which is what this anime is adapting.
@VertFirstQuestion Жыл бұрын
No need to give this as a tip. Being confused by Okabe's personality and not knowing what percentage of his persona is real is part of the fun and mystery. No need to take that away from them with spoonfeeding
@just-_-wandering Жыл бұрын
@@VertFirstQuestion Except this is not supposed to be a mystery of what his personality is. There is a reason the visual novel kind of states what Okabe is. A lot of these characters are supposed to be character tropes of their time, and a few reflect similarly to characters from Chaos;Head Noah, the story before Steins;Gate. I did not say why his is one but said what he is, which really isn't spoilery or experience-ruining in any way. The real mystery is the second thing you said, why is he acting like a chuunibyou that is an ass to the people around him?
@VertFirstQuestion Жыл бұрын
@@just-_-wandering its not about what its "supposed to be" this is a reaction channel and those all add to a "reaction". You know Okabe is a chuuni because you watched the show or maybe you watched MORE shows. There is value in not realizing it straight away.
@just-_-wandering Жыл бұрын
@@VertFirstQuestion Like I said before, this isn't meant to be something that you need to spend hours understanding since it is literally given to you in the beginning, there are other parts that are more important that don't have answers yet that are more interesting to think over. If you do not know that Okabe is chuuni at the beginning of the anime, then the anime is doing a poor job at characterizing him since in the VN it gives you this information at the beginning of the story. This story expects you to have understanding of terms and "otaku culture" although it is not required to, which if you don't understand, that is why the tips list exists in the VN, where it explicitly states that "Okarin is a textbook example of a chuunibyou." You don't have to understand from watching multiple shows to know that because the writers want you to know that information and are giving it to you. I enjoy watching people theory craft when reacting to shows but sometimes you have to point them in the general direction since it can help them gain a better understanding of the story's settings and characters that writers intended to show off. Getting a reaction out of withholding information from people is not as fun as giving them that information and letting them build off that. It will also cause them to not focus on it and focus on more important things in the story.

Japanese does not have a particular [r] or [l] sound as is in English. There is no plot relevance to their name being Romanized as Luka so I prefer the subtitles to match the pronunciation which has been realized much closer to an [r] sound.
@bernieburton6520 Жыл бұрын
Let's just say that Okabe is what japanese call a chunnibou. He created this alternate persona. It's basically considered a way that some people create a mask to protect themselves from their social anxiety and low self esteem.

@manticore5733 Жыл бұрын
This opinion sprung up from the faster pacing of the second half... when first time watching the first half is excellent, just a slightly different sort of show than it turns out to be. So those sold on the hype of the latter events might feel it slower than expected. That's the trouble with hype! -- I don't think that's going to be an issue here - they're loving the mysterious atmosphere and I for one am loving their theorising.

A lot of the references and science in this show are somewhat based in, or referencing actual science/conspiracy theories/events. String theory, John titor, CERN, the LHC, etc. CERN is a real organization today that does a lot of experimental physics research. Pretty cool, you can tell the author was very scientifically literate.
@fraktaalimuoto Жыл бұрын
Indeed. I am a PhD level physicist, and even from that point of view the science in the story, while of course there are liberties taken, feels very consistent and thoughtful. So many concepts are at least in reference to reality. No random technobabble.
@madscientist14 Жыл бұрын
@@fraktaalimuoto true. This is even more in depth in the visual novel like the debate they had in this specific episode, they actually showed them arguing and bringing up scientific stuff like kerr black holes and time and not just the result of how hard Kurisu destroyed Okabe. Visual Novels take hundreds of hours to consume so it's understandable that they cut it out for the anime.

It is for sure in my top 10 anime of all time, but it is the kind of show that I always have a hard time recommending to people that haven't watch a lot of anime because there's so much otaku/weeb culture reference that can make the beginning of the story kinda hard to follow and push through. But by understanding them, it makes the show even better. Another example would be Gintama, which is hilarious, but contains a massive amount of, not only anime culture reference, but modern Japanese references.

When Makise Kurisu gets emotional, she says, "Baka nano? Shinu no? (Are you stupid? Do you want to die?)" and uses 2chan slang, and here we can read that she is a hidden Otaku. "Baka nano?" is a commonly used word, but "Shinu no?" has a distant nuance, as if we are asking if a third person who is not here is going to die, which is a bit unnatural to say to someone in front of us. "Baka nano? Shinu no?" And that's one set. It spread because the rhythm sounded good. It is a slang used in the past on the 2chan boards to convey the desire to mount that I am not interested in you. Since it is slang, I don't think that Kurisu's words here are words that indicate distance from Okabe, but merely that she inadvertently used a familiar Otaku word.

Why do you write comments like these? Stop confirming stuff (which is basically spoiling). "OMG, they are wrong about something! I have to correct them!!!" As a viewer, why would you want to confirm or deny their theories? They are gonna get the answer later anyway. Personally, I'd want them to be completely wrong about something instead of them already having correctly predicted a lot of things in the show. If they are wrong about something, they're gonna be surprised (which is usually what people want or expect to see). If they correctly predicted something in the show, there's not really any surprise. Of course, if they do have a correct prediction that they came up by themselves, great! But it's pretty lame if spoiler comments like yours (if the reactors read it) lead to them coming up with a correct prediction.
@Hawkcam1996 Жыл бұрын
@@SashimiMaster4210 You have a funny definition of “confirming” because I *didn’t* “confirm” *anything.* And no, it’s not spoiling to just tell them they’re wrong. Spoiling is when you reveal what *will* happen, not what *doesn’t.* The definition of a spoiler is this: [a *description* of an important plot development in a television show, movie, or book which if previously known may reduce surprise or suspense for a first-time viewer or reader.] Where did I describe anything? What plot development did I describe? None, that’s what. These comments are to tell them *to keep guessing* so we can see what other theories they might come up with, rather than if they just stick to one, wrong theory. I literally said “keep guessing” in my comment, so what’s so hard to understand about this? To call anything I said a spoiler is like calling “Luke Skywalker doesn’t get teleportation powers” a spoiler. It’s not. People like you are the ones that ruin the fun of watching reaction channels come up with theories, not me. I encourage them to *keep* coming up with theories while you apparently just want them to stick to one theory because you’re afraid they might guess right.
