Three Sisters is one of my favourite plays.. Seeing Johnathan Miller's production, particularly the final act, was one of the greatest experiences of my theatre going life.

She has so much compassion and understanding; I cried! This is exactly how I pictured her when I read her book... all the way down to the wine glass next to her :) What a brilliant woman!

I wish I had more of these. I look at these and remember how extraordinary it was to be in class ... like going to church, I think. Any time I lost focus on why I was doing this, I would go to Stella's class and remember what it was like. Glad you liked it.

I love these people on here that dispute what she is saying...or her way of achieving it. Who in the hell are you?? Who are your pupils. What is your legacy?? Who has ever spoken your name?? The world still speaks of Adler. Enough said.

@GeorgeWTush For a while Adler's family was trying to get Donna Murphy (who also studied with Adler) to play her in a stage production depicting Adler's life, as well as possibly a film. There were some problems so it won't get made, but I think it's notable that for the work they have someone much younger than Stritch or Lansbury in mind.

yep i felt the same way i pictured her the same way,Now i see why brando was the way he was .it's amazing how some many people don't get this it's amazing how out of all the people who have studied under her the only one who seemed to fully get it was Marlon brando .You figure there would of been a whole army of brando's even after all this time

She is associating the emotion to the line and being specific not intellectualizing though at least in my mind. I just think that her techniques somewhat work for me if they don't for you then that is fine.

@tjrine85 truly understand the relationships you have with each of the character, when actors don't under their relationships, you fall into telling and not conveying. One should play it moment by moment not chasing after an objective, what do I want. when actor do that it takes you out of the scene. Makes what you do boring. Thought brings emotion, not the other way of around. By truly understanding, not playing the character by your emotions, you'll give a muplit-denominational...

I've tried to find THIS play. along w/ others of the last 10-15 years ( 'Calico', for example) of British production other than 'Shakespeare'. Preferably DVD, I hope to view an experience an entire play if they exist on film & are offered to the general public. You Tube is an option for me now too. I contacted BBC Productions, which said they are not available Q & A. Months later, I am no further. Any suggestions ? I'd appreciate...!

Looking for the want and need ,and the objective makes you lose sight of what is really needs to be seen. And that is by understanding. When you truly understand, your emotions and imagination flows better. How will you get it, never works, because it not a battlefield on the stage. People don't always fight for what they want. If the script calls for it, then fight what...

To really play a real to life character, one needs to understand their character, the world and what is really going on. If you don't truly understand the character or the world, you cannot play character. If actors find all this studying and anaynalizing too much work, then acting should not be their job. No, no. The actress who could play Stella is Elaine Stritch. She has the theatrical size and explosiveness that Stella knew how to deliver. To play Stella, one must be bigger than life. Stritch studied with Stella and eventually taught at her studio. She could do it.

its true, but you are working backwards, and ultimately blocking yourself, if you work from emotion to action, you must use the action to find the emotion.

@tjrine85 Playing the objective and knowing you want, hardly never works in play or script, because 99. of the time the character doesn't know what they want. Instead one should analyze the script, and understand the world the character lives in, what is truly being said, and see the world from their character point of view (by leaving all personal judgments from the actor point-of-view. Such as my character is evil and ect.) People who are evil, don't see themselves as evil. ...

Not all the time and no is not all about Objective. When it becomes all about objective, it makes the whole thing boring.
