you should pin this message, derps are being quite ignorant here. nice effort imo. a strike with the blunt side could have been video-edited out... so derps still don't appreciate honesty... -.-

Could do that blindfolded. Looks impressive to the untrained but Hyun does make a good point. Backwards slash like that only makes sense if it had been a sakabato sword. More like a light replica. The real deal weighs a ton to most people. And it more tumbeling and spinning. Throwing comes into play when you have friends telling you swords have no range versus guns. ;-)

Ok, I get you now. Makes sense too, because if, say, the blade is hit half way along it's length, the tip not only produces a bending force at the point of impact, but also torque through twisting as the tip is above the point of contact, not in line with it. Your comment also explains why one katana we used to use looked more like a screw, as one user hit it on a tree branch with a loose grip and it hit on the side, causing the blade to twist. My apologies for questioning your wisdom. :-)

Most of the people going "this isn't real swordplay" blah blah, it's not SUPPOSED to be. It's for show & form, & for that it is amazing. I wonder if most of you realize that 90% of all martial arts are only FORM & not for real fighting? No one performs a kata during a real fight. The enemy doesn't match you strike for strike like in martial arts movies. All that stuff is stunt fighting for visual enjoyment & hardly has real application. In a real fight there are a few basic strikes & it's over.

Not all swords are katanas, but all katanas are swords. ka·ta·na /kəˈtänə/ Noun A long, single-edged sword used by Japanese samurai. The name Katana is of Japanese origin. The meaning of Katana is "sword". Now you know what you're talking about. ;)

Try reading it again, sir. It doesn't say anything about not wanting to hurt your opponent, it says "non-lethal". Breaking your opponent's arm with the blunt edge of a blade is going to hurt pretty damn bad, but it probably won't kill you whereas severing an arm likely would.

agree with the sword dancing is just for the show. yumi or any type of bow weapons are the winner in war. especially the chinese, who have the history of using rapid firing cross bow. yari or spears are perhaps the best weapon to use in group or in any ancient warfare before rome came up with their giant shield and short spanish sword. in japan, they used to form 5 yari footmen per small group so they survive better. still, katanas were often used in warf, especially from upper class.

Well yeah, i suppose thats right. Do you kinda get what i was meaning though? Hand to hand is up close, personal. you hear the other person, see their emotions. ect. Much more connection. a person down a scope is just a target though, like the 100s of silhouettes in training. Much easier to detach yourself from. Im not trying to argue that "one is better" simply saying there is a difference.

Agreed, I've done petty crap like this since I was about 10. That was about 8 years ago.. Started off with wood, got the hand of the motion and catching, moves to steel poles, then moved to a metal, non-sharpened katana. Now, I'm just throwing it around like a feather. Though, the motions are very limited compared to using a multi-bladed spear (kind of like a set of blades stacked by each other, blades out, until they form a circle-like shape), Of course, this is because that's circular...

I think hes talking about there are no "real heroes" or Champions anymore. As a man can be destroyed from a great distance by rifle or by guided bomb. Whereas in the age of swords it was your skill and determination as a warrior that won the day, and men gained reputations and were feared and revered on the battlefield, but now it doesnt matter who you are, a bullet will still put you down.

You didn't answer my question chief. I didn't ask you to deduce the origins of what you've minimized to baton-twirling, that's not important. What I want to know is what credentials you have to say what a martial artist is? Wushu and Shaolin arts in their traditional forms involve very intricate, complex movements. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is derived from Japanese Judo does that make it any less practical? Hardly since it's favored by MMA Fighters. Please answer my question though, I'm curious now.

Why is this comment receiving so many negative votes? Don't get me wrong, violence is bad, and fighting for the right purpose is always honorable, but his words have merit. It takes years of training and determination to master a sword, and it gives less power. It relies on the wielder, not vise versa like a gun. Guns and bombs make human will and motivation irrelevant, and that's a fate worse than death.

Erm Wrong, firstly IAIDO and IAIJUTSU are the Japanese martial art of drawing and cutting with the Katana, it is still based upon koryu (old school) methodology basically it's how the sword is used to kill. I do not know where you get your information from but it is wrong, Secondly the IAITO she is swinging, even though it is a blunted training sword, it is considered a katana and is to be respected as such. Thirdly as Wu Shu AND Shaolin are chinese martial arts and are irrelevent in this debate

Yea but you could use the back of the katana to just bruise someone rather than cut them, not a technique or anything. Like how some fights you see them use the handle to hit the enemy. You would think they'd retake it if she did a mistake right? So maybe its not a mistake on her part.

Her reflexes will be tricked making her want to catch both falling objects, it needs to be in her line of sight, she drop the blade or loose a couple of fingers ,either way she has steel abs so target her chest ;p -Trivia- Her style is called as the hammered hanza, invented by a drunken samurai from Edo.
