I googled this same concept last night and basically bleach breaks down the added pigment because that's what oxidative salts are supposed to do; it's literally why bleach was invented. That's why you're only left with a pastel tint at the end of the process, or, in your case, a slight toning effect. Now, the level of lift you're going for and your starting base are going to play a huge difference in the outcome. The darker the base, the more discreet the effect. The lady in the video is using a red/fuschia pigment and we know artifical red is incredibly hard to break down so that's why her client is left with a lovely medium pink at the end. The red is a survivor, the purple/blue - not so much.

I work as a stylist and we used Goldwell as our main colour line. The Pure Pigments can be used with both semi, demi, and permanent colour. The product allows the artist to use them to create more reflective looks, or amplify colours (ie the Red/Orange/Yellow are fantastic with your bright auburns, reds, or coppers). Whereas, the Cool Blue or Matte Green are meant more for toning purposes. In order for there to be a lot of the colour though, you need to use a lot of the pigment itself.

Hi Stella. Could you please make a video ( if it still not exist) regarding basics color theory but for dark hair specifically? I mean it isn't so obvious from non-professional perspective what colors are combined together in natural/dyed shades of browns. And more important, what should we expect on brown hair with different toners/colors. Would be much appreciated.

I remember that long time ago there was retail line of permanent color, which bleached dark hair directly to copper, vibrant red or purple tone, but it wasn't too popular and discontinued. The worst thing is that 10-15 years ago me and my friends bleached hair at home and didn't use any toner, so our blonds were combination of orange & chicken yellow 🐥

Cause i’m a maximalist if they do this to me i won’t see the highlights. 😂 i have black non dyed hair waiting for it to grow. Its great now because we have similar length and you give me ideas. Not about dying or lifting the hair….i want to preserve it as it is really curly. Can’t remember well because i always been experimenting like you, but now work in . When you use lover developer ( like 20vol) it should be left on hair much longer than eg. 30 or 40 vol, course the stronger developer means quicker result 20 vol is fine in this case but should be left to definitely more time to see better results And in my opinion 20 min wasn't enough to see something more in such dark hair and I'm a lil bit disappointed 😥

I’m confused…this is so weird…I have dark brown/ almost black hair (with some gray by now:) and been bleach-coloring for the past 8 maybe 10 years! I never even thought of it being sth out of the ordinary. I mean, I go to my hair stylist, she puts on the bleach+dye (at the same time) and 30mins later my hair’s caramel colored…no orange, no yellow and the best part about it is…I always just do the roots and it always turns out perfectly.. and the rest of the hair has all the natural blonde highlights by now which you get with time through sun exposure and especially since I never dyed the rest of my hair again. It looks so natural with a lot of dimension. Lighter on the top and darker under layers. I didn’t even know that this process wasn’t a common thing LOL🙈😂 when it came to chemical dye that is, since I used to bleach and color my hair when I was younger a crazy red with vegetable color henna. Thus, I know how it works, but once I’ve switched that’s how they did it…bleach and dye at the same time…eyebrows too…🤷🏼‍♀️ PS: my hairdresser uses Wella

i ones used silver shampoo for a bleach bath on my pink hair and it turned out an ugly green. i googled it and everybody said the bleach would destroy every pigment so there was no way it came from the shampoo. So i thought it might be because the pink i used had a bit of blue pigments in it and they turned green.

I'm curious to see how it would go if left on for like, 45 minutes - an hour. I feel like maybe the pink showed up well because the copper works with it? Definitely different than just straight bleach though
@Dessamator
@Dessamator Жыл бұрын
Maybe if you left the bleach on longer, or used a stronger developer, maybe the results might have been more noticeable? I understand why you didn't, but for semi or demi permanent dyes to really be their truest, you usually have to try to get to as pale as possible.

Isn't it the concept of box dye? Where they mix the lifting part with the dye and you're left with a permanent colour? I've been box dyeing my hair for over a year in red since I'm left at 21 with tons of white hair. I think you can tell from my profile pic. And I've dyed my hair fun colours before. Like pink and blue on previously lightened hair.
@StellaCini
@StellaCini Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately box dyes don’t lift coloured hair. So while the concept is similar, if you already have dye on your hair like I did, the box dye won’t be able to lift and will only darken then hair color
@Just_Kirsty
@Just_Kirsty Жыл бұрын
There are two things I hate about this: You won't be able to tell if the hair lifts evenly enough prior to picking the colors for toning it - coz it's basically a two steps in one application process. The other thing is the fact that you will probably not be able to get rid of your result anymore. So if you're a person who either wants to go lighter step by step or likes to try out new color everytime they get their hair done, this ain't it. But the overall idea is amazing. Would I do it on myself? No. Never.

It's not that ground breaking to me. I've seen cool additives or something like this year's ago. It's not that different, only that it doesn't deposit into a cool tone but into a pinkish one. Guy Tang has a similar system in his color line as well. Years ago, my hairdresser even mixed bleach with permanent color (I don't know if you are allowed to do that) and used that mixture on my hair. My hair was liftet and deposited in one step.
