Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus), also known as the Steller's sea lion and northern sea lion.
It is the sole member of the genus Eumetopias and the largest of the eared seals (Otariidae).
In the 80-90s of the XX century, the sea lion population was dramatically decreasing and by the beginning of this century the species was recognized as close to extinction. Now their number is gradually recovering.
Steller sea lion is endemic to the North Pacific Ocean. It is found from the American mainland to Hokkaido, including the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin.
