Beautiful summer tour starting from Bormio - Strada Statale 38
Fantastic sunny day with views of the Bormio valley, summer camps with alpine animals, high mountain rivers.
There are so many cyclists and motorcyclists.
Once parked by car or motorbike, it is the last effort to go uphill to Garibaldi refuge where there is a wonderful view over Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige and Switzerland.
With a cable car you arrive at Rifugio Livrio where you can do summer skiing and climbing on the ice.
The step is open from May to October.
The step is inside the Stelvio National Park at a height of 2758 meters, called the top Fausto Coppi.
26 km and 48 bends from the South Tyrolean side from Prato allo Stelvio, 21.5 km and 40 winding from the Lombard side from Bormio.
Famous tourist destination for motorcyclists, cyclists, skiers and mountain tourists.
In 2017 also passed a stage of the Giro d'Italia won by Vincenzo Nibali.
The step was built between 1822 and 1825 by Carlo Donegani high mountain engineer, commissioned by Emperor Francesco I of Austria.
