Stem cell therapy is being illegally given as a "treatment" for Autism, cerebral palsy, and various developmental and intellectual disabilities by practitioners worldwide. Doctors give false hopes to parents, caregivers and claim to cure these conditions.
Yash Charitable Trust (YCT) has joined forces with its partner Forum for Autism, renowned doctors and professionals in the field, have been working hard trying to promote best practices in understanding and working with neurodiversity. This film is our humble offering against the use of stem cell therapy as a treatment. Please watch and share widely.
Featuring:
* Sushama Nagarkar (Psychologist, Trustee, Yash Charitable Trust, and Parent to an adult with autism)
* Parul Kumtha (Trustee, Forum for Autism, Mumbai and Parent to a young autistic entrepreneur)
* Dr. Vibha Krishnamurthy (Founder, Ummeed Child Development Centre)
* Uma Ladiwala (Neuroscientist and Stem Cell Researcher, Formerly with TIFR and UM-DAE CEBS, Mumbai)

In response to comments claiming that the information in the video is incorrect/biased, Yash Charitable Trust would like to reiterate the facts stated in the video that as of February 2023 no medical research has been able to establish any benefits of Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) for Autism. Besides, on short term follow up side effects of SCT have been observed- such as epilepsy, headache etc. There is no data of long term side effects. Anecdotal evidence of individual cases does not establish efficacy of the SCT which is usually being administered along with several other standard, rehabilitative therapies. This is also the official position of the ICMR and NMC. As per the ICMR guidelines, SCT can only be administered as part of a research clinical trial and parents should not be charged for the same.

Telling lies and spreading false propaganda, how does one even live with themselves. I am astonished with the arguments of these therapist and doctors. Parent experience and real life examples are not good enough. Why ?? Because these therapist can keep charging 30-40k per month from parents. Is this really a charitable trust or money making entity ? Everybody agrees every autism child is different so stem cells also benefits each child differently. Just rejecting the experiences of thousands of parents tells how the people in this video have a closed mind. They are not here to doing anything positive for autism but keep their businesses going. Shameful

There is something called peer reviewed research papers. A sign of propaganda is this sheer ignorance of scientific evidence. as a professional dealing with such a serious matter about the life of many children, please dont make any claims without going deep into the subject. The speakers who are doctors should read more as it will serve them better and will help them serve humanity better if ever they decide to do so.

Thank you for this video. As an autistic person I know that I’m not broken. My mind works differently, better than NTs in some ways troublesome in some ways but nothing to be cured any more than anyone who’s different needs to be cured. I wish people would stop using their car horns so much and use soft yellow lighting, it would help so much.

We are still not understanding the gravity of the situation and the red flags of such treatments, unfortunately. 1. SCT is not backed with adequate empirical evidences to prove its effectiveness. All medical treatments need substantial research before it is administered to a patient. If not done, it puts the patients wellbeing at risk as we don't know what effects it would have down the line. Putting children with special needs through something like this is highly criminal- they are not guinea pigs and we are not volunteers in an experiment. If all branches of medicine started giving treatments this way then we are all doomed. 2. SCT is not proven to be responsible for improvement in children as it is administered with rigorous occupational therapy, speech therapy and alternate therapies, which do have years of research and sound empirical data to support the fact that they work in empowering the child to learn skills required to be independent. So, how does SCT have any role to play in it? Still not proven and the practicing professionals too have no answer to this question. I would any day invest in my child's regular therapies and special education than put him through invasive medical procedures that have very less credibility. 3. Autism is not a disease to be cured. Hence, the claims made by SCT professionals that my child will be normal after the procedure is downright unethical swindling. There is nothing wrong with any child with autism and they dont need to be cured. It is us who need to stop looking at people who are differently abled as if something is wrong with them. It is us who need to accept the facts and change our outlook. 4. I see a lot of people say that why are you only taking few failed cases into consideration. There are 100s of parents who have seen adverse effects of SCT, have lost a lot of money and hope due to this. It is very difficult for them to come forward and say that I was swindled. They have approached Forum for Autism which is one of the very few forums working to ensure individuals with ASD get their due rights and are safe from exploitation. My brother has ASD and many of his friends from school were given SCT- none of them have been transformed or have shown signs of any change in cognitive functioning. It broke their hearts and will, while SCT's accounts had their money. Some of us may chose to still believe that this works. That's fine too. But, by promoting something like this with no supporting data and not truly questioning the credibility of such therapies, we are giving way to such professionals to engage in malpractices and turn our kids into test subjects. It gives way to further scope for exploitation. And most importantly, if we dont accept our children as they are then the world never will. The goal is not to change them as per the society's idea of "NORMAL". We need to evolve and create a world where we can coexist and thrive together.

Oh please. Stop this nonsense that we need empirical evidence and double blind studies. No parent will nominate their chid for such a study. And parents do try aggressive therapies before they go for stem cells. Does therapy has the same effect on each child ? No but you don’t ban those. Right approach should be study the successful cases of stem cell but no the argument seems that you should ban it, so therapist can keep filling their pockets and families can suffer is depression.

Stem cell topic is deeply invaded in the emotions and intellect of many Special need children Parents. So it's really difficult to accept for many parents who tried it for their kids. There are many reasons although 1) Very few will come forward that they claim they were fooled. Since many of them are either highly Educated / Big businessmen who don't want to accept what they did wrong for their children. (they are right since every parent wants to do the best for their kids). It's a natural tendency.... How many of us do accept foolishness in front of others.. 2) Many kids get results after Stem cell therapy but are those results really because of a Stem cell???? Since after Stem cell shit give to the child the Parents are asked to follow vigorous Occupational therapies and Sensory integration Therapies. (Few Therapies are highly paid experienced and more professional) so they do their Best work on various aspects of development and dysfunction of the child. With the therapies the child shoes some improvements in a few weeks. But Alas.... The poor Hardworking Therapist is not given Credit but whole credit goes to Stem cell. And Parent feel great that they got theresult what they Paid for. 3) Other Way round..... If the child does not show improvements then all the curse goes to the therapist by those crook doctors. Saying Therapies failed to Train the newly lodged cells. And now they have to take a new shot. 4) Stem Cell is a big racket that many other agencies are involved who get lots of commission for their references. There are many doctors and even Therapies for small money share make Emotional parents Vulnerable to go for it. 5) Unfortunately to continue the point no 4..... Many Special Need parents themselves are also the Part of this Racket....... Many of themselves are Leaders of WhatsApp Community where hundreds of Parents follow their words and Suggestions. All of the above are facts and Sad reality..... Last few years. Many Ethical professionals and practicing people working in Development of Special need children are side lined by these point 4 and 5 Crooks for running their own Businesses. If anyone has doubts one can mail me personally. shrivastavaanil3006@gmail.com

Allow parents to decide. You seems to think the parents don’t what benefits their child. Whether the change is due to stem cells or therapy. Stem cell in combination of therapies works best. Results differ from child to child. The video is lie as the parent shown describes the stem cell procedure incorrectly.

The parents of the child wanted to continue the stem cell treatment because it was improving the symptoms of their autistic child. Although this seems like "curing" autism, in reality it's about improving symptoms such as better language and communication, etc. ASD differs from one person to another, and what works for someone might not work for someone else. In this case, the parents clearly specified in court that the treatment helped their child and therefore would like to continue it India. Parents and caregivers must be given the choice to figure what works and what doesn't for their children. Parents of non-verbal children especially, who witness the frustration of their children not being able to express themselves, should be allowed to try what works to improve these types of symptoms for their child (and I'm sure they're not seeking to CURE autism altogether). With regard to the media, I completely agree that the language should definitely change.

I think this video is not correct. I know lot of families who can see lot of improvements after SCT, and few families didn't see any improvement. As most of us already know that SCT is not scientifically approved, and lot of research is still going on across the globe. So technically its parents call whether to take this or not as long as there are no long terms side effects. Honestly, this video doesn't make sense to me. This video doesn't show parents faces as well. why? did you guys talk to those parents who seen improvements in their kids after SCT. You should better go and check with them as well first. Please remember that is a spectrum which means a child can be anywhere in the spectrum and improvements will be depending on that as well. Tell me what therapies are approved for Autism? Which therapy can recover a child completely? ABA? Speech therapy? Occupational Therapy? Special Educator? what else?

@@GhodelaYogesh As mentioned in the film, Autism is not a disease that needs to be medically or surgically treated. It is a neurodiverse entity, that is, an autistic person is simply different from what is considered neurologically 'normal'. E.g. If a man is 5 feet tall and the country's average height for a man is 6 feet, should we consider the 5 ft tall man as having a disease and try to treat him and make him taller? No. Similarly, an autistic person's brain works differently from the average person's brain. It is normal but different. So he does not require treatment. He needs social and rehabilitation support. Not medicines and surgery. Some unscrupulous doctors label it as a disease and falsely promise guaranteed cures for it. Which is absolutely wrong.
@Bindu1Sripad
@Bindu1Sripad Жыл бұрын
None of the therapies can "cure" autism. Simply because it is a difference not a disease. Stem cell therapy is disproved many times and in many countries. Sure, some parents might have noticed some positive changes with this therapy. But they could be attributed to a million other things that parents do - engaging meaningfully with the child, encouraging their interests, presuming competence in the child, providing multi modal communication to name a few. Like you mentioned, autism is a spectrum. Then how can one single therapy (in this case the stem cell therapy) work for everyone. So this clearly shows that the process has no merit

The scientific journals and clinical studies have not been quoted in this video except to the extent of some issues which some research papers do acknowledge and the highly capable practitioners have already attempted to address. This is potentially misinformation by motivated commercial interests and presupposes that further research and new approaches are just impossible when brain plasticity is already an established scientific fact and stem cell research is one of the cutting edge research areas now. We can't write off a new approach and accept that there is no hope. We need new, well researched objective scientific voices and not such videos. Everything needs to be questioned and more particularly status quoist voices especially if they have very little original work of their own, if any, to speak of. For parents it is worth getting more information from very capable researchers and by reviewing their papers and believe me there are loads of very intelligent parents around and their voices are bound to prevail. The defensive response of Yash charitable trust is also unreliable, self serving, opinionated and lacking foresight on viable alternatives. It is also patently false that research cannot be fast tracked because it was very recently done for developing the covid vaccine and the whole world knows about this. If we take this approach that nothing new can work then we are certainly doomed to perpetual treatment in the hands of such experts. I would recommend that the 'experts' look at the data which is available in several published papers some of which are now over a decade old, do follow up studies as part of their charitable initiatives on the long term ill effects of this procedure and then come back to educate others. There is no long term data on the effect of covid vaccines but I am sure all were well advised to be vaccinated sceptics versus living in risk (not one voice opposed it as everyone wants to live). This kind of propaganda is doing a great disservice to parents who are looking for solutions to the serious issues that they and their kids are facing. We all know that in 2006 the FDA approved risperidone to treat irritability in children with autism and that should not be the end of the world of allopathic/alternative treatment of autism because it is NOT a treatment. We need sharper and more scientific minds and can do without opinions and we will keep setting the narrative right so real progress can be made for the benefit of those who actually need it. Parents, please do more research.

The fact that YCT has to put out a disclaimer shows the whole idea of making this video was skewed from the beginning / while there is no published clinical trials in medical journals there are many on going clinical trials around the world. A disgruntled father who paid and was not given the deaired expectations on the outcomes of treatment does not confirm SCT for ASD does not work. Its a fallacy against the medical stakeholders around the world. YCT lacked understanding in what they wanted to present in their short video / using the term SCT as theor title and then putiing conments about inclusiveness etc may be misleading to say the least. While the intent was to show viewers - do not use SCT - I believe every viewer got it and herein lies the main issue of claims by video / it did not do justice to stakeholders both in medical fields and parents of ASD kids. I hope YCT will take a hardlook and evaluate the contents of video using an outside third party and either change the contents of video or take it out of media stream once and for all. Its a slippery slope when only ine side is presented for the general market place. Hope is an important aspect for stakeholders. Thank you

When it comes to any sort of mental disability I think all are I mean doctors , therapists are playing with parents. In the name of social work they are making money and these therapies are so expensive that all cannot afford. Families will loose their peace of mind, social life and even financially they suffer as one of the parent should leave their job to take care of such kids. Even siblings of such kids suffer mentally in many ways and they don't get proper nurturing as parents are more keen about the improvement of the disabled. At the end of their life parents will always be left with a question mark what after us? Financially also they are not strong as other families. Are parents responsible for all this? Is it the mistake of parents or child. All suffer without anyone's mistake . Other so called doctors, therapists taking advantage of their situation without any guarantee that he would become normal kid. Even if they show improvement can we leave them in this world where people take advantage of others weakness.

I disagree with most of the information or I may say biased information ... If you people really want to make a difference to the society.. I would request you to show both side of coin, I am sure you will get people who got benefited from stem cell

The cause of autism is not known. No one has ever been cured of autism. More importantly, autistic advocates would tell you that "we don't need to be cured, we are not sick".

Just curious - what is this well known cause of autism? And what is the sure shot cure for it that you are talking about? How do the so called cured kids look like now?

Maybe you’ll be shut down next for false claims. I’m an autistic adult who knows this is nothing to cure
